Taking my mom to a house music event in Los Angeles was NOT on my 2026 bingo card, but here we are 😂🪩

Before heading to Day Trip at LA Historic State Historic Park, I made my mom play “finish the festival sentence” to see how prepared she actually is for a full day of house music.

Her answers??? 😭 Just watch.

But somewhere between planning our LA weekend, teaching her festival slang and getting ready to dance together today, I realized how special it is that I even get to do things like this with my mom.

I’m 37. She’s 70, in a completely different chapter of life. And somehow we still genuinely like experiencing each other’s worlds.

I credit a lot of that to the way my parents raised me. They didn’t need to understand everything I liked or every version of me to love me. They gave me room to be myself, stayed open minded, and led with kindness.

And as an adult, I realize how much that matters.

Parents: be curious about your kids’ world instead of immediately judging it. Listen to their music. Let them show you what they love. Try the restaurant. Go to the concert. Ask questions. You don’t have to become them you’re just showing them that who they are is worth knowing.

And grown kids: when you have the opportunity, bring your parents into your world too.

Because one day you might realize the random LA weekend, the ridiculous videos and taking your mom to her first house music festival weren’t little things at all.

Anyway… Mom’s vocabulary test is complete. 😂 Next stop:
