Saguaro Sunset Soaps
Welcome to Saguaro Sunset Soaps! Handmade, small batch, real ingredients.
I’m the person behind the bars — an artisan soap maker who turned a love of natural ingredients and a slightly chaotic kitchen into something that actually makes your skin happy!

🌿 Coffee House — coffee grounds for a gentle scrub, brewed coffee in the mix, cedarwood warmth underneath. It’s the bar you reach for when your hands smell like… well, everything else you’ve touched today🧼🫧

🌿 I don’t make a warehouse of bars and hope they find a home. Small batch means I can tweak a recipe, catch a scent that’s too strong, and actually stand behind every cut. Handmade isn’t slower for fun. It’s slower so it stays mine 🧼🫧

🌿 This jar of creosote-infused olive oil is currently living its best “I’m not like other oils” life.
Give it 4–6 weeks and it’ll have a full identity crisis, quit the pantry, and reappear as soap.
Nature’s slowest glow-up 🫧🧼🌵

🌿 Every oil has a job.
Coconut oil gives big bubbles. Olive oil is gentle and conditioning. Castor helps the lather stay creamy. Shea or cocoa butter add richness. A natural bar isn’t one magic ingredient — it’s a recipe. That’s why two “natural” soaps can feel completely different on your skin 🫧🧼

🌿 A bar is a tiny environmental win.
A plastic pump bottle of body wash is mostly water + packaging. A bar is concentrated cleanser, no bottle, and true soap is biodegradable. Less to ship, less to throw away, nothing lingering in the drain the way some synthetics can. Small swap, real footprint change 🫧🧼

🌿 Why your handmade bar gets soft (it’s a feature).
Natural soap is glycerin-rich, so it loves water. Leave it in a puddle and it turns mushy. That’s not cheap soap — that’s the moisturizer doing its job. Sit it on a draining dish, let it dry between uses, and the same bar lasts much longer 🧼🫧

🌿 Superfat: the leftover hug.
Good soap makers don’t use exactly enough lye to convert every drop of oil. They leave a little extra oil on purpose — called superfatting. Those leftover oils stay in the bar and cushion your skin instead of stripping it. That’s why a well-made bar can clean without that squeaky, tight feeling 🫧🧼

🌿 The lye mith!
Yes, soap starts with lye.
No, finished soap does not contain lye. Lye is the catalyst: it reacts with oils, then is used up. What’s left is soap + glycerin. If a maker measures and cures properly, the caustic stuff is gone — same idea as flour becoming bread.
Were you taught that “lye soap” is harsh? That usually meant poorly measured old recipes, not modern handmade bars 🫧🧼

🌿 The glycerin they take out!
When oils turn into soap, nature also makes glycerin — a humectant that pulls moisture toward your skin. Handmade cold-process bars keep about 5–8% glycerin in the bar. Many factory bars extract it and sell it for lotions… then you buy lotion because your skin feels dry 🫧🧼

🌿 How did we go from real soap to “beauty bars”?
History!
During the World Wars, fats and oils were scarce. Chemists invented synthetic detergents as a substitute. They also worked better in hard water and didn’t leave scum.
After the wars, companies kept making them. They were cheaper, more consistent, and easier to mass-produce.
So the old method never came back to the big grocery aisle. That’s why most store bars today aren’t soap in the original sense.
The old way is still around — just not on the cheap end of the shelf 🫧🧼
