Walking through the full process of creating handcrafted herbal soap from scratch this weekend with the Congolese Community of Waterloo, IA was truly an adventure and such a joy! What an honor to be part of an experience where creativity, craft, community, and culture unite.

Bubble, bubble toil and trouble … 🧼 Get in on the art and science of making handcrafted soap from scratch this Thursday, Dec. 11 at the Marshalltown YMCA YWCA in our final workshop of the year! Using the centuries-old cold-process soapmaking technique, we’ll combine plant-based oils and lye to create soaps that are mild, moisturizing, and eco-friendly, with essential oils customizing each batch for one-of-a-kind natural + nourishing goodness. Pre-registrations required, with sign-ups closing TOMORROW (Dec. 8)!

🥥 Base Oils: Every one of our soaps contain both coconut oil and olive oil. Coconut oil provides a fluffy lather and cleansing power, and allows for a hard, long-lasting bar. Olive oil allows for a mild, nourishing, and moisturizing soap that’s perfect for sensitive, dry, or aging skin (and baby skin, too!). Each of our soaps is further customized with additional base oils and butters to capture more skin-loving benefits. Could we make soap with just one base oil? Yep! But we are all about the synergy of multiple oils working together and capturing the beneficial properties of each.

🍃Extras: We have formulated each of our soaps to target different preferences and needs. Green tea is rich in antioxidants and can calm irritated skin. Comfrey promotes healthy skin regeneration. Wheatgrass powder is super rich in nutrients and has anti-inflammatory properties. Walnut hulls, oatmeal, and pumice powder act as gentle exfoliants to rejuvenate the skin.
