Noticing more hair in the shower, on your brush, or around the house? Hair shedding can be influenced by more than your shampoo.
Four things we consider:
1. Iron status. Low iron stores can be associated with increased shedding, even before more obvious symptoms of deficiency appear.
2. Thyroid function. Thyroid hormones influence the hair growth cycle, which is why changes in thyroid function can sometimes show up in the hair.
3. Stress and recent life events. Illness, emotional stress, major schedule changes, surgery, or rapid weight loss can sometimes trigger shedding weeks or even months later.
4. Protein and overall energy intake. Hair is not essential for survival, so when the body is consistently under-fuelled, resources may be redirected away from hair growth.
The timing matters too. Hair changes can reflect what was happening in your body several months ago. That is why we look beyond the symptom itself and ask: what changed before the shedding started?
Persistent or significant hair loss deserves proper medical evaluation, especially if it is sudden, patchy, or accompanied by other symptoms.

What do you wish your healthcare appointments included more of?
More time to tell your full story?
More attention to patterns between symptoms?
More conversations about nutrition, sleep, stress, hormones and lifestyle?
More clarity about what your labs mean?
A care plan that feels personalized to you?
Your health is more than a list of symptoms or a set of lab results. Your history, daily habits, and overall well-being can all provide valuable pieces of the picture.
At PrimeLife Integrative Medicine, we believe that asking thoughtful questions, looking at the bigger picture, and understanding your individual needs are important parts of your healthcare journey.
Because your health story is uniquely yours, and your care should reflect that.
💚 Let's start with a conversation.

Sunday nights are a reminder to slow down, reset, and recharge for the week ahead.
Quality sleep, stress management, meaningful connections, and gentle movement all support your brain, mood, and long-term health.
Healthy aging starts with small, consistent habits, and sometimes that means giving yourself permission to rest.
Weight gain, fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, low libido and hot flashes could be signs your hormones are out of balance!
Don’t ignore the signs. 💗 Let’s talk hormones!

When someone is highly reactive, food often gets blamed first. Sometimes correctly. But it may not be the only thing influencing the reaction threshold. That distinction matters because otherwise people can spend months removing food after food while the system remains just as reactive.
Instead of hunting one villain, I want the wider context. What was different today, sleep, heat, stress, cycle changes, exercise, medication, illness, exposure? Food may still matter. It just deserves to be interpreted inside the whole picture.

If “but I sleep enough” has become part of your morning routine.
Eight hours in bed tells me how long you were there. It does not automatically tell me how well you slept. Were you waking throughout the night? Snoring? Tossing and turning? Drinking alcohol close to bed? Eating late? Waking with a racing mind? Getting up to use the bathroom? Feeling like you were conscious half the night? When someone tells me, “But I sleep eight hours,” I’m interested in the quality of those eight hours, not just the number. Sometimes the fatigue problem starts before your feet ever hit the floor.
Seriously. Unexplained weight gain, fatigue, night sweats, can’t sleep? Labs are “normal”? Come see us, let’s get those hormones right!

DIM is one of those supplements that comes up a lot in hormone conversations, especially around PMS, hormonal acne, breast tenderness, and heavier or more symptomatic periods.
So what is it actually doing?
DIM, or diindolylmethane, is a compound your body can make from cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts.
Its main role is supporting the way your body metabolizes estrogen. In simple terms, it can influence which estrogen metabolites your body produces and how that estrogen is processed.
That is why we may consider DIM when estrogen metabolism seems to be part of the problem.
It is not about “getting rid of estrogen.” Estrogen is essential. The goal is to support healthy metabolism and balance, not eliminate it.
And like any supplement, DIM works best when there is a reason for using it. Symptoms, cycle patterns, life stage, medications, gut health, and overall hormone function all matter.
