Leon Soon Hair Studio
Leon Soon Hair Academy is a one of a kind Cosmetology school located in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Day One is officially underway! ✨
Our Hair Basic students started their 6-week journey by learning some of the skills that form the foundation of working professionally in the salon.
Today we focused on client consultation and communication, followed by hands-on practical training with the round brush blow-dry.
It’s not just about learning how to do the service — it’s about learning how to communicate with a client, understand their needs, work with confidence, and begin developing professional salon habits.
One day at a time. One skill at a time. 💪🏽
This is where the journey begins.
6 Weeks. Strong Foundations. Real Skills.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 🖤
As beauty professionals, we often build relationships with our clients that go beyond the service. Sometimes, the salon chair becomes a place where someone feels comfortable enough to talk, breathe, or simply feel safe.
We may not always know what someone is going through, but we can choose to listen without judgment, show compassion, and know when to connect someone with the right support.
Your chair can be a safe place.
Let’s continue to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, respected, and supported.
☕️ What does a cup of coffee have to do with hair lightening?
This is a simple visual way to understand the stages of decolorization.
As the water runs through the coffee, you can see the pigment gradually become lighter — a simple analogy for understanding how hair moves through stages as it lightens.
Dark → Red → Orange → Yellow → Pale Yellow
Understanding the underlying pigment is essential to knowing what the hair needs at each stage of the lightening process.
Color is chemistry. Education makes it make sense. ✂️🎨
Behind every great salon team is continued education. ✂️✨
Today, I’m taking the training into the salon — working directly with the team, demonstrating techniques, sharing knowledge, correcting where needed, and helping stylists strengthen their skills behind the chair.
This is what staff training looks like:
Real stylists.
Real salon environment.
Real hands-on education.
I don’t just teach in the classroom — I bring the education to your salon and your team.

Salon Day ✂️🎨
Yesterday, our students worked with real models and put their skills into action.
✂️ Hair cutting

💇🏽♀️ Real salon experience
Not just learning the theory — actually doing the work.
This is how confidence is built, one client at a time.

A really productive day at Leon Soon Hair Academy! ✂️✨
Today, our students got to experience more than just technical training.
💬 Guest Educator Workshop TheManeStylist with Isla Salon & Spa
We focused on soft skills and salon customer service through interactive role-playing — learning how to communicate, handle different salon situations, and create a better client experience.
✂️ Combination Haircuts
Students took what they’ve learned about the four basic forms and started combining them to create their own haircut designs. This is where understanding the fundamentals really starts to build creativity and confidence.
🛍️ Product Day
I also made a trip to Salon Essentials to restock some of our professional products and picked up a new product, Goat, to add to our school’s product selection.
Education, creativity, professionalism and real salon experience — all part of the journey.
This is what learning hairdressing looks like. ❤️

A look back at one of our students working on a live hair-cutting model ✂️
This was a few years ago, but the fundamentals still matter today.
Learning to cut hair isn’t just about holding the scissors—it’s about understanding form, sectioning, elevation, balance, and precision.
Real training. Real practice. Real growth.
This is what hands-on education looks like at Leon Soon Hair Academy. 🎓✂️
Do you really understand the pH of the products you use? 🧪
Hair color, developer, permanent color and neutralizing shampoo all have different pH levels—and understanding why that matters can change the way you approach a service.
In this reel, I’m testing the pH of different hair products and breaking down what those results mean for the hair.
Think like a stylist. Understand your products. Understand the hair.

Today wasn’t about getting it perfect. It was about getting through it. ✂️
The 90° sculpting form challenged our students — and honestly, it was difficult.
But they started.
They worked through the frustration.
They stayed with it.
And they completed the form.
That’s part of becoming a professional stylist. You don’t become confident because everything is easy. You become confident because you learn how to work through what’s difficult.
One technique at a time.
One challenge at a time.
One completed form at a time.
This is the work behind the skill.
This is the journey at Leon Soon Hair Academy.
