Only Gave Birth to Himself

My late brother, Piyom Yoll Kuol (Piyom-mabiik), once shared a profound thought with me. He said, "Brother, it is difficult for a parent to bring forth a child who truly bears their character. Only the lion gives birth to itself." I believed him then, and I still cherish the wisdom in his words.

Today, however, I have come to see that human beings can also, in a sense, "give birth to themselves."

Not physically, but through the character, values, and spirit they pass on to their children. When a child so closely reflects the personality and virtues of a parent, it is as though that parent lives on in another form.

I see this clearly in the daughter of Cde Williams Nyuon Bany. She embodies so much of her father's character, presence, and disposition that one cannot help but see her as a living reflection of him.

In that sense, she is not merely his daughter; she is
the continuation of his legacy.
