UPDATE ON THE PRESS BRIEFING AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS CONFERENCE HALL AT TOWER HILL

During the press briefing, Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah stated that there are no direct allegations against Sierra Leone's ambassador to Guinea regarding the embassy vehicle that was arrested on the 13th of January 2025 at the Guinea-Sierra Leone border due to drug trafficking. He then asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Musa Kabba, about how this incident might impact the country's reputation and whether there had been any information regarding the origin and destination of the arrested vehicle.

In response to the Minister of Information and Civic Education, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Musa Kabba, stated that it has not been proven that the ambassador is involved in drug trafficking. He clarified that only the embassy's vehicle was implicated in the incident and that the ambassador was not under any house arrest.

The minister continued by informing that the two individuals who were in the vehicle have been arrested and are currently under investigation in Guinea. He also confirmed that the vehicle was travelling from Sierra Leone to Guinea. The minister explained that the reason for not releasing information about the situation to the public was due to diplomatic considerations and a lack of sufficient information.

During the conference, the Minister of Information and Civic Education emphasized that all parties would be held accountable if they were found to be violating Sierra Leone or international drug trafficking laws, and they would face the full consequences of the law.
