What tests are used to diagnose CHRONIC KIDSNEY DISEASE 😲
Testing for CKD should include:
• Blood test measuring serum eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate)
• Urine test measuring albumin: creatinine ration (ACR)
• Blood pressure measurement
A raised urine albumin: creatinine ratio should be confirmed on repeat measurement. For CKD to be diagnosed a minimum of three reduced eGFR measurements, over at least a 3-month period is required.
And just a little hint💡- make sure you ask for copies of all of your tests so you see the results for yourself. Alot of my customers were told their test results were fine, only to find out years later that their kidney function had been steadily declining and they weren’t made aware until they were in the later stages of CKD.⚠️⚠️

What to do about gout? 😳
One of the members of our community asked for a post to be written about gout so here it is.
What is gout?
Gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis that affects adults. It causes pain and swelling in joints, typically starting in the big toe.
The signs and symptoms of gout almost always occur suddenly, and often at night. They include:
• Intense joint pain
• Inflammation and redness
• Limited range of motion
• Low-grade fever
• Elevated uric acid on a blood test
What causes gout?
The cause of gout is hyperuricaemia, defined as elevated uric acid levels in the bloodstream, which can go on to form needle-like crystals in a joint. Uric acid is a waste product that is filtered by the kidneys. High uric acid occurs when the kidneys don’t adequately eliminate uric acid or if there is an overproduction of uric acid.
Uric acid forms small, sharp crystals in and around the joints (ouch!) but they can also be deposited throughout the body eg. vertebrae, skin, soft tissues and kidneys.

Top 5 symptoms of kidney cancer 😳
Kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers in both men and women. Overall, the lifetime risk for developing kidney cancer in men is about 1 in 46 and for women is about 1 in 80. Symptoms of kidney cancer can be vague and easily put down to other less severe problems such as back pain, chronic urine infections or even stress/fatigue.
Five early warning signs to look out for (and get investigated) include:
1. Blood in urine- also called haematuria is a common symptom associated with kidney cancer.
2. Back pain- persistent low back pain or pain in the side between the ribs and hip bones.
3. Blood abnormalities- such as anaemia (low red blood cell count) or polycythaemia (high red blood cell count).
4. Tiredness and constant fatigue- feeling tired and weak is a common side effect of kidney cancer, and this could include general weakness or feeling of heaviness, difficulty with concentration or decreased interest in usual tasks.
5. Weight loss and/or loss of appetite- a sudden loss of appetite can also be associated with kidney cancer.
These symptoms can also occur for a number of other reasons but it is important to see your doctor and get things investigated if you notice any of the symptoms above.
