Why do some people never get dark underarms?
It’s one of the most common questions we hear.
Two people can shave the same way, use the same deodorant, and live similar lifestyles.
Yet one develops dark underarms while the other never does.
Why?
Because pigmentation isn’t determined by your habits alone.
Your skin is influenced by a unique combination of genetics, inflammation, friction, hormones, skin barrier health, and the way your body responds to irritation.
Some people’s skin naturally produces very little extra melanin after irritation.
Others produce much more.
That’s why the same trigger can create completely different results in different people.
This is also why there’s no universal whitening cream, deodorant, or home remedy that works for everyone.
The real question isn’t:
“How do I get rid of dark underarms?”
The better question is:
“Why did my underarms become darker in the first place?”
When you understand the why, choosing the right treatment becomes much easier.
At SkinWorkz Aesthetics, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions.
We believe in understanding your skin, identifying the underlying cause, and helping you make informed decisions based on science—not trends.
Because healthier skin begins with better understanding.
Helping you make smarter skin decisions.

💬 What’s one thing you’ve always wondered about dark underarms? Leave your question below—we may answer it in a future episode.
🪒 Is shaving secretly making your underarms darker?
This might surprise you…
The razor isn’t the one creating pigmentation.
Your skin is.
Every time you shave, your skin experiences tiny amounts of friction. Sometimes there are microscopic nicks. Sometimes the skin barrier becomes temporarily weaker.
Your body doesn’t see a beauty routine.
It sees damage.
To protect itself, your skin starts repairing the area. For some people, repeated irritation can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), causing more melanin to be produced over time.
That’s why two people can shave exactly the same way…
One develops darker underarms.
The other doesn’t.
The difference isn’t simply the blade.
It’s how your skin responds.
At SkinWorkz, we believe healthier skin starts with understanding why it behaves the way it does—not chasing quick fixes.
✨ Save this post so you can come back to it whenever someone says:
“Shaving causes dark underarms.”
The truth is far more interesting.
Have you ever been told shaving is the reason your underarms became darker?
🚫 Scrubbing harder won’t make dark underarms lighter. It often makes them darker.
Many people believe that scrubbing away dead skin will reveal brighter underarms. Unfortunately, that’s one of the biggest myths in skincare.
Every time you scrub aggressively, you create tiny micro-injuries that may not be visible—but your skin recognises them as damage.
Your body responds with inflammation, activating its natural healing process. As part of that repair response, your skin can produce more melanin, leading to Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).
The cycle looks like this:
Scrubbing → Inflammation → More Pigmentation
If you’ve been exfoliating more because your underarms look dark, you may actually be making the pigmentation worse.
Healthy skin isn’t achieved through more friction. It’s achieved by understanding the root cause and treating your skin with the right approach.
At SkinWorkz Aesthetics, we believe that lasting results begin with education, personalised treatment plans, and science-backed skin solutions—not harsh scrubs or quick fixes.
✨ Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your skin is to stop fighting it.
💬 Have you ever been told to scrub harder to lighten your underarms? We’d love to hear your experience in the comments.
đź“– NOW READING | Vol 1: Episode 2: "Does deodorant really cause pigmentation?"
Let’s talk about that daily habit you do every single morning without thinking: applying your deodorant.
Could this one product be the main reason your underarms are darkening? 🛑
The short answer is: Yes, it absolutely can. But it’s not because the deodorant itself is "dirty" or bad—it’s how your skin chemistry reacts to specific ingredients.
Here is what is actually happening beneath the surface:
1. The Alcohol Irritation Trigger 🧪
Many conventional antiperspirants and deodorants use alcohol to dry quickly. On a sensitive area like your underarms, frequent alcohol exposure causes dryness and microscopic irritation.
2. Contact Dermatitis (The Hidden Flame) 🔥
Artificial fragrances, parabens, and aluminum compounds are notorious for causing low-grade, unnoticed allergic reactions (contact dermatitis). Your skin looks slightly red or feels itchy.
3. The PIH Payoff đź’¸
As we learned in Chapter 1, whenever skin experiences inflammation or irritation, it heals by producing excess melanin. This leads directly to Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH). Every time you apply an irritating deodorant over already sensitive skin, you are resetting that dark cycle.
So, do you need to stop using deodorant completely? Not necessarily. But you do need to start reading the labels. 🔍
âŹď¸Ź COMING UP NEXT: Vol 1: Chapter 3: "Why scrubbing makes it worse"
Before you pick up that loofah or body scrub to try and wash the darkness away, stop. In the next chapter, we’re breaking down exactly why your favorite exfoliating scrub is actually polishing the pigment into place.

đź“– NOW READING | Vol 1: Episode 1: "Why are your underarms dark?"
Be honest: how many times have you aggressively scrubbed your underarms in the shower because you thought the darkness was just "dirt" or poor hygiene?
Let’s clear something up right now: It’s almost never dirt. 🛑
Scrubbing harder won't fix it. In fact, it usually makes it worse (but we’ll get to that in Episode 3).
Medically speaking, underarm hyperpigmentation usually comes down to three hidden culprits that have nothing to do with how clean you are:
1. PIH (Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation): When your skin gets irritated—from razor burn, harsh chemicals, or tight clothing—it gets inflamed. When inflammation heals, it leaves a dark mark behind.
2. Acanthosis Nigricans: A condition where the skin thickens and darkens, usually triggered by insulin levels or hormonal shifts.
3. Constant Friction: Your underarms are a skin-on-skin fold. The constant rubbing weakens the skin barrier, prompting your body to produce extra melanin to "protect" itself.
The good news? Once you know the real enemy, you can actually treat it. The bad news? You might be applying the primary trigger to your skin every single morning.

🚨 Your skin doesn’t care how much you spent.
Read that again.
A $30 moisturiser can outperform a $300 luxury cream if it’s formulated for your skin.
The beauty industry has convinced many of us that “more expensive” means “better.”
It doesn’t.
We’ve met countless clients who invested in premium skincare, yet still struggled with acne, dehydration, pigmentation, enlarged pores or dull skin.
The problem wasn’t the price.
It was that the products simply weren’t right for their skin.
Healthy skin isn’t built by collecting expensive bottles.
It’s built by:
✔️ Understanding your skin type.
✔️ Using ingredients that actually target your concerns.
✔️ Protecting your skin barrier.
✔️ Staying consistent.
✔️ Getting professional advice when your skin needs more than skincare alone.
Sometimes, the biggest transformation doesn’t come from buying another luxury product.
It comes from finally understanding what your skin has been trying to tell you.
✨ Great skin is never about spending more.
It’s about choosing smarter.
If you’ve ever felt disappointed after spending a fortune on skincare, you’re not alone.
👇 Tell us honestly…
What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skincare product, and did it actually work?

✨ The Science behind Glass Skin ✨
It’s not just good genetics.
What many people call “glass skin” is actually the result of three things working together:
✨ Even skin tone
✨ Smooth skin texture
✨ Healthy collagen production
When pigmentation, redness, acne marks or enlarged pores become more noticeable, skin starts to lose that natural glow.
That’s where DPL (Dynamic Pulsed Light) comes in.
Unlike traditional light treatments, DPL precisely targets excess melanin and visible blood vessels while stimulating collagen beneath the skin.
Over time, you may notice:
🤍 Brighter, more even skin tone
🤍 Reduced pigmentation and acne marks
🤍 Less facial redness
🤍 Smoother skin texture
🤍 Refined pores
🤍 A healthier, radiant complexion
At SkinWorkz Aesthetics, every DPL treatment is personalised because no two skin types are the same.
If you’ve been searching for a safe, non-invasive way to achieve clearer, healthier-looking skin, we’d love to help you discover whether DPL is suitable for you.
