For our triple-treatment appointments, we generally work in the order of eyeliner → brows → lips, with a lunch break built in. Allow up to 7 hours with us ⏰ it’s a big appointment, but you’ll walk out with the full INK treatment.

WHY DID THE PIGMENT TURN BLACK?

This is exactly why we patch test before laser cosmetic tattoo removal.

Cosmetic tattoo pigments are often blends of different colourants. Some lighter pigments, particularly those containing iron oxides or titanium dioxide can react to laser energy and undergo a chemical change.

Instead of immediately becoming lighter, the pigment can darken to grey or black. This is known as paradoxical darkening.

The small black area you can see here is the response following our laser patch test. It tells us important information about the pigment sitting within the skin before we treat an entire brow.

Darkening doesn’t necessarily mean the pigment can’t be removed. In some cases, the newly darkened pigment can subsequently respond to appropriate laser wavelengths, but the response needs to be assessed carefully before proceeding.

This is why we test first.

A patch test allows us to see how an unknown cosmetic pigment behaves, assess the skin’s response and determine the safest removal options.

DID YOU KNOW - MICROBLADING IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.

And that’s something we believe should be talked about more so client make informed decisions when choosing their design technique.

Microblading creates fine, hair-like strokes by manually implanting pigment into the skin. On the right skin, with the right technique, the results can be beautifully soft and natural.

But not every skin will hold those delicate strokes well.

Skin type, oil production, pore size, age, existing tattoo, scarring, sun damage, lifestyle and the overall condition of your skin can all influence how microblading heals and how it looks over time….also how much maintenance they will be needed in the future to keep them well maintained.

On some skins, those crisp little strokes can soften, blur or lose definition as they heal and age. In these cases, a powder, combination or alternative brow technique may produce a more predictable and longer-lasting result.

This is also why we don’t believe in choosing your brow technique from a photo.

At I.N.K, your consultation comes first. We assess your skin, your natural brow, existing pigment if present, your desired result and your long-term brow plan before recommending the technique we believe is best suited to you.

Sometimes that will be Microblading.

This is why we don’t always recommend covering old cosmetic tattooing with more pigment.

When previous brow tattoo has become too dark, cool, uneven or the shape is no longer quite right, laser lightening can give us the opportunity to start again.

Every brow journey is different. The number of laser sessions required depends on the pigment, depth, saturation, age of the tattoo and how your individual skin responds.

You can choose to have up to three cosmetic tattoo treatments completed in one visit. Perfect if you’d prefer one healing period rather than multiple appointments.

Just be prepared to spend the day with us at SKN. Beautiful, considered cosmetic tattooing takes time.

BROW REMOVAL TAKES PATIENCE

Tattoo removal is a process and every brow has its own history.

Most cosmetic brow tattoos can be significantly lightened or removed within 2–4 sessions, but there is no one-size-fits-all number.

In this case, treatment one targeted the darker tones of pigment first. As this pigment broke down and cleared, the underlying red tones became more visible.

Treatment two then targeted the remaining red pigment using a wavelength specifically suited to that colour.

This is a great example of why cosmetic tattoo removal often requires more than one treatment. Different colours within the pigment may need to be targeted progressively.

How many sessions you’ll need can depend on:

• The type and composition of pigment/ink originally used
• The age of the tattoo and how many times it has been worked over
• The depth and density of pigment implanted into the skin
• Previous colours, corrections or layers of tattooing
• Your individual skin health, healing response and lymphatic clearance

Each laser session breaks pigment down progressively, allowing the body time to clear those fragmented particles between treatments.

We cannot rush biology.

Our goal isn’t to remove your brows aggressively. It’s to achieve effective clearance while respecting the integrity of the skin. Particularly if the end goal is a beautiful new set of brows.
