Arcadia Therapeutic Massage was established in July of 2021. Enjoy a Raindrop Technique or a Hot Stone Massage. Both are an hour of sheer bliss.

At Arcadia I incorporate ten of Young Living's amazing oils to give a massage experience of a lifetime. Raindrop Technique is an exciting new modality to enter New Zealand. Its origins come from Ancient Tibetan, Ancient Egyptian and American Indian bodywork techniques, combined with the power of therapeutic grade essential oils and massage. Raindrop Technique uses Vitaflex, the Ancient Tibetan version of foot reflexology. This is performed along the spinal reflex of the feet, in combination with various essential oils. This exotic combination makes for a sensational experience which promotes profound relaxation and balance. $100

For a Hot Stone Massage we start by scanning you with an iTOVi to find out what essential oil would best resonate with your system at the time of your appointment. This allows for a specifically individualized experience. Back and arms 30 minutes: $60
Back, arms and legs 60 minutes: $120

If you would like the best of both worlds try a Hot Raindrop. This starts with the traditional Raindrop Technique followed by an upper body Hot Stone experience. This experience lasts for 90 minutes. $160

Have you ever noticed a rosy glow on your skin during or after a massage? 💆‍♀️✨

If you’ve hopped off my table after a rejuvenating Hot Stone Massage or a blissful Raindrop Technique and noticed your skin looking a little red, don't worry—your body is doing exactly what it's supposed to do! That temporary flush is a completely normal physiological response called erythema.

Here is the fascinating science behind what is actually happening beneath the surface:
• 🩸 Vasodilation: The targeted pressure physically widens your blood vessels, bringing a fresh surge of oxygen and nutrient-rich blood right to the surface of your skin.
• 🔥 Friction & Heat: As I work through muscle tension, the manual rubbing creates local friction. This warms up the tissue, dilates capillaries, and flushes the area with healthy circulation.
• 🧠 Nervous System Reset: Massaging your soft tissues activates sensory nerve endings, signaling your nervous system to relax and letting your blood flow more freely.
• 🌿 Histamine Release: The mechanical stimulation of the skin triggers a brief, natural release of histamines, which safely opens up tiny blood vessels to accelerate local healing.
• 💪 Micro-Trauma Repair: Although I do not consider the Raindrop Technique to be a deep tissue massage in typical sense, where it does provide deeper tissue work or release stubborn knots, it can cause tiny, harmless micro-tears in the soft tissues. Your body immediately sends extra blood to the area to repair and rebuild it stronger!

When should you pay closer attention?

While a healthy glow is wonderful, excessive irritation or small red bumps could mean something else, like a mild sensitivity to a product or friction-induced folliculitis (irritated hair follicles). At Arcadia, I strictly use high-quality, pure Young Living Essential Oils and nurturing base oils to minimise irritation and maximise your skin's health.
A little bit of pink just means your circulation is waking up, your muscles are releasing tension, and the healing process has begun! 🌊✨

And these were herbs. Oils are more concentrated and so beneficial. Bonus? They smell fantastic!

I have propagated a Peace Lilly and an Ivy, but I really have no place for them. Anyone interested? As you can see from the photo it has a massive root system.

As a member of Kapiti Wellbeing I had a videographer do a shoot for me today! How exciting! I will be very curious to see the final cut. It is my understanding that it is going to go on the Kapiti Council page as part of a promotion for the Kapiti Coast as a health and wellness destination.

When I studied for the Raindrop Technique under what was then called Raindrop Australia, their main focus was safety first. For that I am most thankful. Yes, they taught us the proper way to perform the Raindrop Technique and a Hot Stone Massage, but we spent more time on how to safely deliver both of those amazing modalities. I will be forever grateful for Nat Mayes who instructed me on how to execute both treatments masterfully, and for providing the foundation I needed to ensure my clients would have the most effective and enjoyable experience possible.

Although this powerhouse does not feature on the Raindrop Technique per se, it does replace different oils where modifications are called for, e.g. it replaces Wintergreen for those who who are on blood thinners or who are epileptic, or Basil for those who are pregnant.

Recent research demonstrates that lavender EO has earned its nickname as the "Swiss Army Knife" of EOs, due to its multiple properties, mechanisms, molecular targets, and benefits.

Laboratory research showed that lavender EO possess antioxidant activity (ABTS and DPPH assays), anti-inflammatory activity similar to diclofenac, greater antidiabetic activity than acarbose, and anti-tyrosine (skin brightening) activity. Additionally, the EO strongly inhibited acetylcholinesterase activity—superior to galantamine—suggesting it is a promising natural solution to explore for the management of memory-related disorders, like Alzheimer’s disease.
