Your morning was a blur of emails and stressful meetings. Your afternoon is going to be a sprint through school pickup, sports practices, and making dinner.
Right now, you are stuck in âfight or flightâ mode, and your brain is buzzing.
You donât need to take a holiday to reset your nervous system (although good to plan one!) You can do it right now, sitting at your desk, or hiding in the office bathroom for 60 seconds.
Look around you and mentally name:
5 things you can see (the texture of your desk, a leaf outside, your mug)
4 things you can physically feel (the weight of your feet on the floor, your chair, your clothes)
3 things you can hear (the hum of the AC, traffic, a bird outside)
2 things you can smell (your coffee, a hand cream, the crisp air)
1 thing you can taste (the lingering taste of your tea or water)
This is the 5-4-3-2-1 mindfulness grounding method. It works by forcing your brain out of the anxious future and dropping it directly back into the safe, physical present.
Take one deep breath extending your exhale, drop your shoulders away from your ears and unclench your jaw.
You are doing a wonderful job. You can handle the rest of today, one small moment at a time.
đș Save this to use when you are stressed out and send it to a friend who needs to take a deep breath right now
Let your eyes rest on the water and listen to the sound of the waves.
Take one slow, deep breath in... and let it all out.
Let the visual of the waves wash away the passive-aggressive emails, the heavy mental load, and the noise of your day. You donât have to solve every problem in the next 10 seconds. Just watch, listen, and rest your mind.
đ Save this video right now. The next time work anxiety hits or your day feels too chaotic, pull this up, look at the water, and let yourself take a breath.
