If you want to go lighter without compromising the condition of your hair, you have to be prepared to live through the warm stages. Black colour doesn’t just disappear, as it lifts, all those red, copper and orange tones underneath are exposed.

This is why I always tell clients to expect around 3–6 months of warmth while we slowly and safely work through the old colour.

Could we smash it all out in one appointment? Maybe. But you’d probably be sacrificing a huge amount of condition and length, and that’s not the goal.
