The price of being a doctor in Nepal….

A patient comes to an OPD. There’s this language barrier between the patient, patient party and the attending doctor. When asked for any history of medications, the patient hands over a paper from a nearby clinic described below, there’s no further documentation of the disease. There’s no diagnosis, there is a list of drugs written so poorly that even the prescribing doctor may not understand if shown. Without much the doctor had used antipsychotics drugs, a drug category, which in the longer use can have some serious side effects. What about the patient’s health? What about the patient’s understanding of his disease ? The patient had initially visited the clinic nearby his home where there was no language barrier, the doctor could have well explained about the condition or if he could not have explained he could have simply referred to the higher center he could have documented the illness, symptoms properly.

It's disheartening that a hospital serving some of the most underserved communities still struggles to provide something as basic as a chair in the OPD.
