Earlier this year, I photographed this family and we had so much fun together. So when Mum came back and said she wanted to book a photoshoot just for her daughter, I already knew this was going to be fun.

The brief: Capture her in her princess era.

So we packed the dresses, drove to a castle in Barneveld and made the entire photoshoot about her.

There was a picnic tea party with all her “knuffels”, plenty of dress changes because obviously one princess dress is never enough and a whole lot of playing, exploring and being completely in character.

No family photos. No “everyone look at the camera”. Just her, doing her thing and getting to be the main character for the day.

Kids change so quickly, and I love creating photos that capture who they are in that particular little chapter of their lives.

Princess era: officially documented.

Paper planes were very much part of the plan for this Amsterdamse Bos family photoshoot.

What was not part of the plan was my husband having to help me fold them because I am apparently terrible at making paper planes.

The children absolutely loved them.

And that was exactly the point.

When I photograph families, I always make sure we get a few photos where everyone is together and looking at the camera. But I also plan little things that get everyone moving, playing and interacting naturally.

For this family, it was paper planes.

Between throwing planes, running around, laughing and playing together, I captured some of my favourite moments from the session.

Because sometimes children do not need much direction. Give them something fun to do and let them take over from there.

This was my second photoshoot with this family, and I really appreciate the trust that comes with photographing people again. They already know that they do not have to perform for the camera. I know how to give them enough guidance while also stepping back when the real moments start happening.

This Amsterdamse Bos family photoshoot was loud, playful and full of movement.

And yes, the paper planes were absolutely worth it.

Even if I personally still cannot fold one properly.

A very overdue post from back in May!

I’ve been so busy photographing families, babies and couples that I haven’t had much time to sit down and share all the sessions here. So, better late than never.

This is Luwan, celebrating his first birthday with a teddy bear themed cake smash. There were curious looks, sticky fingers, plenty of cake and lots of personality. Pretty much exactly what you want from a first birthday cake smash.

It was such a fun session for this sweet baby boy and I’m finally getting around to sharing some of my favourite photos.

If you’re planning a cake smash at your home in Woerden, Utrecht or anywhere in the Netherlands, take the pressure off. Your little one doesn’t need to perform or sit perfectly still. Real life is allowed here and I’ll guide you through it.
