Als lichaamstherapeuten werken we niet alleen met spieren en vetweefsel; we werken met mensen. Een lichaam dat gespannen binnenkomt, met een korte en oppervlakkige ademhaling, kan anders reageren op een behandeling dan een ontspannen lichaam.
Daarom kan het helpen om aan het begin van de sessie enkele minuten aandacht te besteden aan een rustige, bewuste en diafragmatische ademhaling. Dit kan de cliënt helpen om te ontspannen en de behandeling comfortabeler te ervaren.
Daarnaast zorgt de natuurlijke beweging van het middenrif tijdens de ademhaling voor veranderingen in de druk in de buik. Dit is een normaal fysiologisch proces dat onderdeel is van de natuurlijke werking van het lichaam.
