They come from the same plant, but they're not exactly the same.
Black pepper and white pepper both come from the Piper nigrum plant. The difference lies in when the berries are harvested and how they're processed, and that changes their flavour, appearance, best uses, and even how long they retain their aroma.
Save this guide for the next time you're cooking, and choose the pepper that best suits your dish.

White pepper loses its aroma faster than black pepper.
That's because the outer layer is removed during processing, making it more vulnerable to losing its flavour and aroma over time.
To keep it fresh:
✔ Store it in an airtight container. ✔ Keep it away from heat, light, and moisture. ✔ Buy only what you'll use within a reasonable time.
🖤 Black pepper generally retains its aroma longer because its outer layer helps protect the essential oils.

If you're having trouble deciding which one to choose, read this.
⚫ Black pepper adds a bold, aromatic flavour that complements stews, grilled meats, and other hearty dishes.
⚪ White pepper has a milder, earthier taste and blends well into cream soups, white sauces, mashed potatoes, and other light-coloured dishes without leaving black specks.
🌿 The best pepper isn't about colour; it's about choosing the right one for the dish.
Which one do you use most in your kitchen: black pepper or white pepper?

You know black pepper. Now, meet the rest of the family. 🌿
Black pepper is the pepper most of us are familiar with, but it's only one member of the peppercorn family.
True peppercorns come from the pepper vine (Piper nigrum). The plant produces clusters of green berries, which are harvested at different stages of ripeness and processed in different ways.

She never let us cover hot soup immediately.
Growing up, my grandma never joked about this rule.
For years, I simply copied her.
But recently, I caught myself wondering...
🤔 Why?
Was there a practical reason behind it?
Or was it simply a tradition passed down through generations?
Now I'm curious...
What's one kitchen habit your mum, grandma, or another family member taught you that you still do today?
