Before the World Knew Pastor Kumuyi, One Quiet Man Changed His Life Forever.
The Hidden Hero Behind Pastor W. F. Kumuyi's Salvation Story.
In 1964, a brilliant young mathematics student walked into a church in Lagos with a sharp mind, a skeptical view of religion, and zero intention of changing his life.
His name was William.
He thought he had Christianity figured out. He thought it was just rules and rituals.
Then he met a humble man named Pa Elijah Dosunmu.
Before he became a footnote in global church history, Pa Elijah Dosunmu was an official and worker within The Apostolic Faith Church in Lagos. Deeply devout and musically gifted, Elijah lived a quiet, disciplined life. Professionally, he established himself as an educator and entrepreneur, later running a school in Lagos State known as Elias International Schools.
But long before the schools and the public recognition, Pa Elijah was simply a man whose life commanded quiet attention.
The paths of Pa Elijah Dosunmu and a young Pastor William Kumuyi crossed through an unexpected cultural exchange of faith. At the time, young William was heavily involved in the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, where he served energetically as a church drummer. Elijah extended an invitation to William to visit The Apostolic Faith Church. William agreed, but only on one condition: Elijah had to attend his church service first.
Elijah agreed, sat through the high-energy service, and when William eagerly asked him what he thought of it his church, Pa Elijah didn't judge or mock. He simply smiled and gave a single, diplomatic word: "Active."
Encouraged by Elijah's open-mindedness, William agreed to visit Elijah’s church. At first, the young mathematician found the strict, quiet hymns vastly different from what he was used to, complaining it felt "like somebody in a cemetery." But Elijah kept inviting him, patiently teaching him gospel songs, mentoring him, and providing crucial spiritual follow-up.
According to Pastor Kumuyi "I did not know all of those gospel songs, but now, all the songs that I know, I learnt through him Pa Dosunmu."
On April 5, 1964, William walked down the aisle, surrendered his life, and became born again. That single conversion didn't just change one man's eternity; it altered the religious landscape of West Africa and the globe today, because that young student would grow up to become Pastor W. F. Kumuyi of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry.
History loves to focus on the man at the microphone. We look at the massive stadiums, the global reach, and the decades of impact. But history almost always forgets the quiet architect standing in the shadows.
Years later, when Pastor Kumuyi began pushing for radical holiness and youth evangelism, intense friction hit The Apostolic Faith Church. Because of his unyielding commitment, Kumuyi was eventually excommunicated.
He was isolated. Cut off. Standing alone.
That is when Pa Elijah Dosunmu made a monumental choice.
He didn't protect his own status, comfort, or prominent position within the church. He looked at the young man he had brought to the faith, walked away from his own established place, and chose to stand right beside him.
Fast forward to 1973.
In a modest apartment (Flat 2) at the University of Lagos, a small weekly Bible study began with just 15 people. Who was there in the room, anchoring the group, teaching the hymns he had passed down, and serving as the church’s very first choirmaster?
Pa Elijah Dosunmu. One of the first 15 members that started the ministry.
For decades, the man who shaped the spiritual father of millions kept a remarkably low profile, refusing the spotlight and letting his life speak for itself.
It wasn't until a landmark 50th-anniversary celebration of the Deeper Life Bible Church that Pastor Kumuyi publicly brought him forward, stepping away from the pulpit to honor the man who whispered truth into his life when he was a skeptical university student.
Today, Pa Elijah Dosunmu is celebrated as an octogenarian patriarch of the faith, married to Mama Esther Abosede Dosunmu, living in Lagos State, where he built his educational legacy, he stands as a living testament to a profound truth:
You might never stand on a global stage. Your name might never trend online. Your biggest contribution to the world might happen in a quiet conversation, a mentorship behind closed doors, or a faithful act of loyalty when someone else is standing alone.
Never underestimate the power of pouring your life into one person.
You never know whose voice God is preparing to shake the world.
What is the most profound impact someone has ever had on your life behind the scenes? Let's talk about it in the comments.

📖✨ 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡 𝗖𝗛𝗨𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗦 – 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗖𝗛 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨? ✨📖
The Lord Jesus Christ addressed seven churches in Revelation 2–3. Although these were real churches, their spiritual conditions can still be seen in many churches—and even in our own lives—today.
❤️ Ephesus – You have left your first love.
🔥 Smyrna – Faithful through suffering.
⚖️ Pergamos – Compromising with false doctrine.
🚫 Thyatira – Tolerating sin and false teaching.
💀 Sardis – Alive in reputation, but spiritually dead.
🚪 Philadelphia – Faithful and obedient to Christ.
🌡️ Laodicea – Lukewarm and self-sufficient.
Jesus is still examining His Church today. His call remains the same:
🙏 Repent where necessary.
📖 Remain faithful to His Word.
❤️ Love Him above everything else.
👑 Overcome and receive His eternal reward.
📖 "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." — Revelation 2:7 (KJV)
❓Which of the seven churches do you think best represents the Church today?

WHO KILLED GOLIATH?
📸 Photos taken from the mountain range overlooking the Valley of Elah, where David brought Goliath down with a single stone.
The stone was an ordinary stone. The sling was an ordinary sling. David was an ordinary shepherd boy. Meanwhile, Goliath was not an ordinary man. The Bible calls him 'a champion'.
Now, pause to think about it. Could an ordinary stone, flung from the ordinary catapult of an ordinary small boy, have generated enough force to bore a hole, and enter into the skull of a full-grown adult like Goliath? You and I know the answer is NO.
What gave David the upper hand was the fact that he was backed by the extraordinary God - Jehovah, the Man of War. In essence, it was not David's ordinary stone that actually killed Goliath. It was GOD'S EXTRAORDINARY HAND behind the ordinary stone! Hallelujah!
This same Hand will back our ordinary efforts to produce extraordinary results in Jesus' name. Shalom!

ONE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR HELPED LEAD 895 STUDENTS TO JESUS IN JUST ONE SCHOOL YEAR.
What God did through one ordinary teenager is leaving thousands of Christians inspired.
Abraham Aguilar wasn’t always passionate about Jesus.
He admits there was a time when he would sit in the very back of church—what he now jokingly calls the “backslider section”—with no desire to change. His heart was hard, and following Christ wasn’t something he took seriously.
But God wasn’t finished with him.
Week after week, the Word of God began breaking through the walls around his heart.
Then everything changed.
After attending a men’s discipleship conference, Abraham made the most important decision of his life.
He surrendered completely to Jesus Christ.
From that moment forward, his life looked nothing like it had before.
Instead of living for himself, he became consumed with telling others about the hope he had found in Christ.
During his senior year at Palmdale High School, he shared the Gospel with classmates, teachers, janitors, and anyone willing to stop and listen.
What began as a simple Bible study among a handful of students soon became a movement across the campus.
By the end of the school year, 895 students had reportedly made decisions to follow Jesus Christ.
It’s a powerful reminder that God doesn’t need a famous preacher, a giant platform, or a massive church to change lives.
Sometimes He simply uses one student who is willing to say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”
Never underestimate what God can do through one life that is fully surrendered to Him.
Amen. Glory Be To God!❤️🙌

The Lord called me into Crusade Evangelism through Evangelist Bonnke in 1990, Evangelist Bonnke laid hands on me in 1999 and I also had the privilege of graduating from The Evangelist Bonnke School of Fire. When I preach at Crusades, I preach like Evangelist Bonnke. Smiling 😊
I was and I am very inspired by the example of Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke and when I get the opportunity to preach at Crusades and Churches, I follow his warning of not trying to impress people with my preaching but simply sticking to the Word - I also do not want an award for preaching - I want Souls saved, the sick healed and believers revived. 🔥
Glory to God forever!
AND TO JESUS BE ALL THE GLORY!
