A Chicago steakhouse chain is facing a lawsuit after 44-year-old former Marine and firefighter Joe Belgio suffered severe brain injuries believed to be linked to contaminated oysters he ate at Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse on June 30, 2025. The complaint, filed August 10, says Belgio became extremely ill days after the meal and entered a coma that lasted several months. His attorney said Belgio suffered cardiac arrests and lost consciousness from lack of oxygen for more than eight minutes before being revived, and he has remained hospitalized since. The lawsuit also names Supreme Lobster and Seafood Company, the oyster distributor. Medical tests found infections including Enteropathogenic E. coli, Plesiomonas shigelloides, and Vibrio cholerae, which his doctors concluded contributed to his condition. They said Belgio had consumed no other raw seafood between the meal and his hospitalization. Belgio is seeking $50,000 in damages, along with coverage for ongoing medical expenses, while a Joe Belgio Recovery Fund has been established to help with his rehabilitation.

Florida woman Tara Alexis Sykes, 36, was arrested after police said she instructed a 10-year-old child through the online gaming platform Roblox to “drop” a 2-month-old baby onto a hard floor and sl!t the throats of adults in the home. The child carried out the first instruction, causing serious injuries to the infant. Authorities with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office charged Sykes with attempted mvrder and aggravated child abvse. Investigators said the messages also included instructions to dr0wn or bvrn the baby and set the house on fire after harming the adults, but the child did not carry out those additional orders. Law enforcement described the case as “unprecedented,” highlighting serious concerns about online gaming platforms being used to facilitate real-world violence.

Former teacher’s aide Caurey Rollins of Augusta will remain in prison after pleading guilty to eight counts of child mlestation involving accusations from his time working at Glenn Hills Elementary School in Richmond County. Rollins was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison for licking a boy’s feet at a Georgia trampoline park in Columbia County, and that case led to a further investigation into accusations involving girls at the elementary school. On Monday morning, a court sentenced Rollins to another 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation, with the sentence running concurrently with his previous Columbia County sentence, according to court records. After his release, Rollins will also be required to register as a sx offender.

A Palm Beach County, Florida, man was arrested on August 6 after surveillance footage allegedly showed him engaging in illegal sexual activity involving a dog. The investigation began on August 4 when the dog’s owner, who was out of town, reviewed footage from cameras installed inside her home and contacted deputies after seeing what she believed were sexual acts involving her 10-year-old black Labrador retriever. Deputies reviewed the footage and said it showed two separate incidents, occurring about 10 hours apart on August 3 and August 4. The suspect later acknowledged that he was the person seen in the footage. The dog was taken to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control for examination. The man was charged with two third-degree felony counts of sexual activities involving animals.

A California judge has dismissed the attempted mrder charges against radiologist Dr. Dharmesh Patel after he successfully completed a two-year mental health diversion program. Patel had been accused of intentionally driving his Tesla off Devil’s Slide in January 2023 with his wife and their two young children inside. All four survived the crash, and his lawyers argued that he was experiencing a severe mental health crisis at the time. Under California law, completing the court-approved treatment program required the charges to be dismissed. Although Patel’s wife initially told first responders that she believed he had tried to kll the family, she later said she did not want him prosecuted. After the case was dismissed, the couple embraced in the courtroom before leaving the courthouse together.

A man in his 80s from Parcoul-Chenaud, France, was about to sit down for dinner when he spotted a fly and grabbed his electric bug swatter to get rid of it. He managed to escape with only light burns to his hand and was taken to a local hospital. As for the fly, no one has confirmed whether it survived the explosion.
