I just had an interesting conversation with someone who insisted that pure white shea butter is raw and unrefined simply because they’ve been selling it for years. 😂😂😂

I was like, “What?!” 😲😲😲😲

Selling a product for years doesn’t automatically mean you know everything about it. 👌👌

As vendors, we have a responsibility to keep learning because our customers trust us. They rely on the information we provide.

One of the most common misconceptions about shea butter is its colour.

Many people believe that the whiter the shea butter, the more original or authentic it is.

That is not correct. ❌❌❌

Natural, raw shea butter is usually cream, ivory, or light yellow in colour.

The exact shade depends on the variety of the nuts, the region where they were sourced, and the traditional processing method. ✅✅

When you see shea butter that is perfectly white, it has often been refined or heavily processed to remove its natural colour and odour.

Refined shea butter isn’t necessarily “bad,” but it is different from raw, unrefined shea butter and may contain lower levels of some of the naturally occurring compounds that many people value.

Also, if you’re buying shea butter for cosmetic use, it should only be used externally. Cosmetic-grade shea butter is not intended for oral consumption. ❌❌

This is why I don’t stock the refined white version, even though many customers ask for it. Instead, I take the time to explain the difference so they can make an informed decision.

As business owners, our job isn’t just to sell; it’s also to educate.

Don’t let market demand make you compromise on quality or spread misinformation.

When you truly understand your product, you’ll earn something more valuable than a sale—you’ll earn your customers’ trust.
