Northern Nigeria has always mastered one thing very well — how to speak with two mouths when it comes to resources.
When oil was discovered in the South, especially in the Niger Delta, the Northern political structure quickly found the language of “national ownership.” They preached that oil is not for the region, that it is for the whole Nigeria. They defended laws that removed control from the host communities. They supported federal systems where the South produces the wealth, but Abuja controls it, shares it, and decides who deserves it. Oil suddenly became a “national cake,” and anybody who complained was called selfish, greedy, or even a separatist.
But here is the shocking hypocrisy…
Let the conversation shift to solid minerals in the North — gold, lithium, columbite, gypsum, limestone, uranium, and others — and you will see a different attitude.
Suddenly, the same people who shouted “oil belongs to everybody” begin to speak another language:
• “This is our land.”
• “The federal government is not protecting us.”
• “Illegal miners are stealing our gold.”
• “Our governors must take control.”
• “We will not allow outsiders to exploit us.”
So oil in the South is “Nigeria’s resource”…
but minerals in the North is “Northern resource.”
That is the dishonesty.
This is why many Southerners are angry today: because it looks like Nigeria only becomes united when the South is producing wealth, but becomes regional when the North is producing wealth. When the South cries about environmental damage, poverty, pollution, military oppression, and stolen wealth — it is dismissed. But when bandits and illegal miners enter Northern mining sites, the entire country is expected to sympathize.
Let’s be honest: this is not one Nigeria.
This is selective unity. Unity that benefits only one side.
If Nigeria truly wants fairness, then the principle must be one:
Either:
âś… every region controls its resources and pays taxes to the center,
OR
âś… the center controls all resources and takes responsibility fully and transparently.
But Nigeria cannot continue with this cheating arrangement:
• South produces oil → “national property”
• North produces minerals → “our heritage”
That is not federalism. That is not unity.
That is economic exploitation disguised as patriotism.
And the longer this hypocrisy continues, the more the country will remain divided — because no nation survives when one part is treated like a sacrifice, while the other part enjoys privilege.
In the end, it’s simple:
A country cannot preach unity with its mouth, and practice injustice with its hands.

The assertion made by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu some years ago is noteworthy: "I will be jailed, but when I come out, Biafra will come". Recently, Congressman Riley Moore's statement calling for the disintegration of Nigeria is quite telling. When he said "We'll Provide Options For President Trump On Nigeria", he specifically mentioned "Breaking Up Nigeria Will Be One Of The Options To Create A Safe Zone For Christians", citing that a mix of half Muslims and half Christians would not work due to Islam's stance on equality, leading to Christian subjugation. Given these developments, can we now deny that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu exhibits prophetic qualities?
