NDC Primaries: Dickson Admits Irregularities, Calls for Unity and Reconciliation
A chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has appealed to aggrieved aspirants and party members to remain committed to the party despite the challenges that characterised its recently concluded primaries.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Dickson acknowledged that there were noticeable irregularities in the exercise but maintained that the situation was not unique to the NDC, urging members to show understanding given the party's short existence and the difficult circumstances under which it has been operating.
According to him, the NDC, which is barely four months old, has had to contend with a compressed electoral timetable that required it to conduct membership registration, congresses, national convention activities, primary elections, appeal processes, and reconciliation efforts within a limited period.
He argued that the root of many of the challenges lies in the country's Electoral Act, criticising the provision that makes direct primaries compulsory for political parties.Dickson noted that complaints about irregularities in direct primaries have been widespread across political parties and should not be viewed as a problem peculiar to the NDC.
He expressed satisfaction with the party's performance so far, stating that, considering its age and the large number of aspirants it had to manage, the NDC had acquitted itself creditably. The former Bayelsa State governor also dismissed reports circulating on social media regarding the outcome of the primaries, stressing that the party had not officially announced any winners.
He advised the public to disregard unofficial claims, explaining that the results of party primaries are communicated through formal channels and not through social media speculation.
To address grievances arising from the exercise, Dickson revealed that the party's second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting had already approved the establishment of a Reconciliation Committee. The committee, he said, would work with state caucus leaders and other stakeholders to restore unity within the party.
He further disclosed that the just-concluded exercise would be the last manual primary election conducted by the NDC, adding that future primaries would be technology-driven to eliminate many of the challenges experienced this time.
Dickson also appreciated party members and supporters for their financial contributions and sacrifices, noting that the NDC has no government officials and is entirely self-funded.
Reaffirming the party's commitment to the 2027 electoral project, he called on members to rally behind the NDC's presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as all candidates contesting for various elective offices.
He urged party leaders and stakeholders who supervised the primaries at the state level to take responsibility for the reconciliation process, noting that many of the candidates emerged through structures coordinated by them.
"It is not a time to shift blames or dodge responsibilities," Dickson said, adding that those who managed the primaries should equally support the party in healing divisions and strengthening its internal cohesion.
He concluded by advising members and supporters to avoid unnecessary quarrels and infighting, stressing that collective effort and unity would be crucial to the party's success in the coming elections.

PITCH COMMUNICATIONS 5.0: A MELTING POT OF PROBING QUESTIONS, BANKABLE SUGGESTIONS, LIVING EXPERIENCES, AND ACTIONABLE PLANS
The fifth edition of the Pitch Communications Annual Public Lecture and Awards of Excellence, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, on December 10, 2025, has culminated, leaving an enduring impact on attendees. The event's theme, "Building the Future Together," with a focus on "Transforming Nigeria: The Impact of Formal and Informal Sectors on National Development," set the stage for a captivating and thought-provoking session.
In his welcome address, Mr. Idris Oseni, CEO of Pitch Communications, conveyed his sincere appreciation to all attendees, including Hon. Rasak Ajala, Hon. Akin Bashiru, and Alhaji Musbau Razak, esteemed supporters of the Pitch annual lecture and award. He also acknowledged the diligent efforts of the team that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the event's success. Coincidentally, the event marked Mr. Oseni's birthday, adding a personal touch to the occasion. With his signature wit, he quipped, "Wan ti da line ru" (the queue has been scattered), and playfully hinted that the next edition might be held in Canada, leaving attendees eagerly anticipating the next installment.
Hon. Rasak Ajala, former Chairman of Odi-Olowo LCDA, initiated the event with an inspiring message, delivered ahead of schedule due to his prior commitments. Departing from his prepared text, he spoke candidly, sharing his life experiences and emphasizing the significance of the informal sector in driving economic growth. His fervent plea underscored the adaptability and resilience of Nigerians, who can transform challenges into opportunities with the right support and encouragement.
The highly anticipated keynote address was delivered by Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, who presented a incisive analysis of the topic. He highlighted the importance of data in policy formulation and ex*****on, stressing the need for continuous encouragement of more people to join the informal sector, with a view to scaling them into the formal sector in due course. Hon. Vinod Obasa also expounded on the symbiotic relationship between the progress and development of both sectors and the ability of government to generate revenue, emphasizing that government responsibility to these sectors must be evidenced by empirical and distinctive project delivery.
The audience was treated to a masterful rendition of the spoken word by Oluwatomisin Akinyemi Tomi, who presented her poignant poem, "From Pain to Purpose." Her powerful delivery inspired attendees to transform their pains into purpose, reminding them that one person's pain might be the purpose of a nation.
A distinguished panel of experts, including Hon. Vinod Obasa, Mr. Salami Akeem (CEO of Balkeem Nigeria Ltd), Aisha Jumah (Strategy and Business Analyst at Noemdek Ltd), AbdulRahman Olakunle Ali (Serial Entrepreneur, Author, and Public Speaker), and Hon. Abdullah Binuyo (former Chief of Staff to Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, former Governor of Osun State), engaged the audience with thoughtful and thorough responses to questions covering various aspects of the formal and informal sectors, including challenges, impacts, technology adoption, funding, and taxation.
The event also recognized outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities through their actions and advocacy. The awardees, Hon. Busola Afolabi, Hameedat Shade Balogun, and Queen Moyosoreoluwa Okeyemi, were celebrated for their tireless efforts in driving positive change.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Akin Bashiru commended Hon. Vinod Obasa for his inspiring leadership and stressed the importance of having competent people at the helm of affairs. He emphasized that the event must transcend a mere talk show, instead serving as a catalyst for trackable adoption of suggestions and plans, measurable actions, follow-ups, and feedback, leaving attendees with a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility.
The Pitch Communications 5.0 event concluded with a symbolic gesture, as Mr. Udoh Joseph Bassey, an artist from the University of Lagos, gifted the Chairman of Agege LGA, Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, an exquisite artwork crafted from plastic and iron wastes. The event was expertly moderated by the dynamic duo of Hon. Remi Bello and Amina Binitie, who ensured a seamless and engaging experience for all attendees.

Alimosho LG Launches Half-Price Food Market to Cushion Economic Hardship
Alimosho Local Government has launched its Half-Price Foodstuff Sales Initiative, a direct intervention aimed at supporting households across the local government. The event, held at the council secretariat in Akowonjo, drew residents, community leaders, market associations, and beneficiaries who described the initiative as timely and impactful.
Speaking at the flag-off, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, said the initiative became necessary in view of the economic challenges facing families. “Today marks a significant step in our efforts to support families and ensure that no one goes to bed hungry,” he stated. He added that subnational governments are required to be responsibe and compassionate to complement the efforts of the federal government.
The Chairman explained that the program would provide major staples — such as rice, beans, yam, garri, spaghetti, eggs, and vegetable oil — at 50 percent of their original prices, making them more accessible to low-income households, widows, the elderly, and vulnerable groups. “This initiative was conceived as a deliberate effort to make essential food items more affordable and accessible to everyone,” he emphasized.
He also assured residents that the food intervention would not be a one-off exercise. According to him, the gesture aligns with the WISE Agenda, which prioritizes welfare, empowerment, and sustainable development. “I want to assure our beneficiaries that this is only the beginning. We are committed to expanding this program and introducing more initiatives that promote welfare and sustainable living,” he said.
In a related development, the Leader of the Legislative Arm of the council, Hon. Semiu Rasheed Olamilekan, praised the Executive Chairman for initiating a program he described as people-centered and responsive. “This initiative speaks directly to the needs of our people and reaffirms our commitment to the welfare of every household,” he noted, adding that Alimosho had chosen to act at a time when many communities were struggling with harsh economic realities.
Hon. Olamilekan added that the discounted food sales represent more than economic relief; they reflect the unity and compassion that define the Alimosho community. “This program is not just about reducing the cost of food — it is about strengthening the social fabric of our community,” he remarked.
He also commended the administrative team, market associations, and volunteers whose efforts ensured a smooth rollout of the initiative. As he urged residents to cooperate and maintain orderliness, the Leader of the House reaffirmed the legislature’s support for pro-people policies. “We will continue to support initiatives that uplift our people and promote inclusive development in Alimosho,” he pledged.
The program is expected to continue monthly as the local government expands its social welfare initiatives, with residents expressing optimism that such steps will help stabilize household spending and enhance overall community well-being.
