Peppers Contain Protein — But How Much?

Yes, peppers do contain protein, but only in small amounts.

Peppers such as bell peppers and hot peppers provide some protein, along with important nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin A, antioxidants, and dietary fibre.

However, peppers should not be considered a major protein source. Foods such as beans, eggs, fish, meat, milk, soy, and other legumes provide significantly more protein.

So, if someone says “pepper contains protein,” they are technically correct. The important point is that the amount is relatively low.

Pepper contributes a little protein to your diet, but you need other protein-rich foods to meet your body's protein needs.

Did you already know that peppers contain some protein?

Today, I went to the market to buy some foodstuffs, and somehow, an ordinary market trip turned into a small nutrition debate. 😂

While checking the prices, I made a remark about how pepper seems to have relatively little nutritional value compared with how expensive good-quality pepper has become. I was basically wondering why we still have to spend so much just to buy enough decent pepper.

Before I could finish, a woman nearby quickly jumped in and said, “Pepper contains protein!” 😂

Another woman immediately started arguing with her, saying that pepper does not contain protein.

At that point, I just told them, “I know pepper contains vitamin C, but I'm not completely sure about the protein part. Let me research it first.”

And honestly, that's the approach I prefer when it comes to health and nutrition.

Sometimes we hear things from family, friends, social media or even at the market, and we immediately accept or reject them. But instead of arguing based on what we think we know, why not check the facts?

So now, the question remains: Does pepper actually contain protein, and if it does, is the amount significant? 🌶️🤔

I went to the market to buy foodstuffs, but apparently I came back with a nutrition research assignment! 😂

Are you going to make your own research or do you already know the correct answer?

FATTY LIVER: WHAT CAUSES IT?

Fatty liver occurs when excess fat builds up in

the liver. Common risk factors include

overweight/obesity, insulin resistance, type 2

diabetes, high cholesterol or triglycerides,

unhealthy eating habits, physical inactivity, and

excessive alcohol intake.

The good news? Fatty liver can often be

improved or even reversed, especially when

detected early, through healthy lifestyle

changes and proper medical care.

Don’t ignore it just because you feel fine—many people with fatty liver have no obvious symptoms.

Take care of your liver before it becomes a bigger problem. 💚

Sometimes life puts responsibilities on us that we never planned for.

An acquaintance of mine recently had to lock up his shop in Lagos and travel to care for his mother, who is battling liver disease.

His family has been spending heavily at a private hospital in Enugu, doing everything they can to help their mum get better. The bills keep coming, the expenses keep piling up, but they are still holding on to hope and doing their best.

It is painful to watch someone put their livelihood on hold because a loved one is sick. 💔

Let this remind us to appreciate our parents while we still have them. Health is truly priceless.

Please keep this family in your prayers. 🙏❤️ May God strengthen the mother, provide for the family, and grant her healing and recovery.

Have you ever cared for someone suffering from liver disease?

IS DRINKING GREEN FIRST THING IN THE MORNING RIGHT OR WRONG?

"Green" can mean 3 things. Here’s what science says:

1. GREEN TEA 🍵
VERDICT: RIGHT... with 1 condition

Benefits:
Antioxidants that fight inflammation
Small caffeine boost = gentle energy
Helps digestion + metabolism

Green tea on empty stomach can cause nausea, acidity, or stomach pain for some people. The tannins are strong.

RIGHT WAY: Drink 20-30min after waking + after a small snack like banana or 2 crackers. Not on a completely empty belle.

2. GREEN JUICE/SMOOTHIE
VERDICT: VERY RIGHT

Benefits:
Hydrates you after 7-8hrs of no water
Vitamins + fiber before food
Natural energy, no crash
Helps with bloating

Best Combo: Cucumber + green apple + ginger + lemon + ugu/spinach

Avoid: Just fruit juice. Too much sugar on empty stomach = energy crash later.

3. WARM WATER WITH LEMON "GREEN WATER"
VERDICT: RIGHT

Benefits:
Rehydrates you immediately

Kickstarts digestion

Vitamin C boost

Gentle on stomach

This is what most doctors recommend first thing.

WHO SHOULD BE CAREFUL?

WRONG FOR YOU IF:
You have acid reflux/ulcer - green tea + lemon can irritate it.

You’re on iron supplements - tea blocks iron absorption. Wait 1hr

You get dizzy easily - eat something first

THE GOLDEN RULE

Water first. Always. You’re dehydrated when you wake up.
Do this order:
1. 1 glass of water → 2. Green tea/juice → 3. Food

BOTTOM LINE:
Drinking green in the morning is RIGHT...
If you do it the right way and listen to your body.

Team Green Tea, Team Green Juice, or Team Warm Water?

What do YOU take first thing?

Self-medication feels like a shortcut until it backfires

THE DAY I STOPPED SELF-MEDICATING 💊

It was a regular Tuesday. Headache. Catarrh. Body pain.
I ran to chemist "Aunty, give me 2 antibiotics, panadol, and cough syrup" 😅

That was my routine. Every small sickness = self prescription.

Until the day it went wrong.
Took antibiotics for 3 days for "catarrh". Felt better, so I stopped.
2 weeks later: worse fever. Went to hospital.

Doctor: "You have antibiotic resistance. The drugs can’t work properly now because you didn’t complete the dose before."

I was scared. And embarrassed.

That was the day I learned 3 things:

1. GOOGLE + CHEMIST ≠ DOCTOR
They don’t know your history. They can’t run tests.

2. ANTIBIOTICS AREN’T CANDY
Wrong drug, wrong dose, stopping early = creating super germs in your body.

3. SOME SYMPTOMS ARE WARNINGS
Headache could be dehydration.
Stomach pain could be ulcer.
Fever could be malaria or typhoid.
You can’t know without checking.

WHAT I DO NOW:
Water + Rest first - For mild cold, headache
Home remedies - Ginger tea, steam, fruits
See a doctor - If it’s >3 days, high fever, or severe pain
Complete any prescription - Even if I feel better

It’s slower. It’s more expensive sometimes.
But my body is worth it.

BOTTOM LINE:
Self-medication treats symptoms.
Doctors treat the cause.

Don’t gamble with your health 🙏

Have you ever self-medicated and regretted it? 👇
Let’s talk in comments. No judgment zone.
