Okay, another question I want to answer is what is my flexibility as a travel nurse? Am I allowed to just, you know, take vacation time whenever I want? Yes. Travel nursing is building your schedule the way you want.
it's very flexible so for example i only want to work six months in a year i just pick contracts those six months in a year that i'm gonna work and the other six months i don't want to work i don't need to ask the manager for time off i just don't pick contract i just don't take contract so that's how it works but do i get vacation pay for those six months i'm off no you do not get vacation fee for those six months you're off whenever you're not working um
You don't get paid. You work, you get paid. You don't work, you don't get paid. That is simply how travel nursing is.
Hello, I'm here to answer some questions about travel nursing and one question I want to answer today is people ask what's the difference between travel nursing and regular staff nursing well staff nurses are permanent full-time Not full-time. It could be permanent part-time could be casual but you're permanent staff meaning you are employed by the hospital and
you get your orientation you get training you're entitled to benefit some hospitals like if your casual staff I think the pay you leave in benefit 14% if your permanent staff like a permanent full-time we get
dental health all those all those nice benefits and if you're part-time some hospitals have uh benefits and also prominent staff employed by the hospital also part of a union right um but the travel nursing they're not part of the union they're like independent contractors meaning they are like self-employed
you work with an agency a travel agency or a nursing agency and you're basically employed by different facilities for your um nursing skills nursing services and usually for a period of time it's contract based so that's the difference between a staff nurse and a travel nurse
Hi, I'm going to show you what I pack in my bag as a travel AR nurse, like my daily bag to work. Okay, so this is my bag to work. I have my nursing purse. I'll show you what. Mostly, as you know, as nurses, we love pens. So I have my pen. I have my tag.
I have lots of pens. Lots of pens. I have blue pen, black pen. But you know as nurses we use mostly black pen. And I have a lot of pens. Because you know as nurses we lose our pens. I have my highlighter. I have my pencil. I have my tag. I have my pen light. I have my pen light. Then I have my wallet. I have my wipes.
For myself, I don't know. As a woman, I love to take my wipes wherever I go. I have the book that I write little things with and I have my stethoscope. This is for my cutlery. I like to have my own cutlery. This is basically all that's in my bag as a travel ear nurse.
May you walk gently through the world, and know its beauty all the days of your life.
It's a co-ed space. Co-ed space means that you're sharing your mix of equipment and everything else. This is the first time I've ever had a co-ed space.
So this is my contact at Dorsing Creek District Hospital in this scene of Dorsing Creek. This is my accommodation. I'll show you the rest of the house. This is the hotel of the accommodation. This is the room. You can see the small closet. It comes with two washrooms. I think there are two rooms.
Here is where they put the actual sheets. That's really down here. I don't think they're doing it. So I'll just show you this right now. And this is the down-hand area. And the kitchen. It's a cozy little place. They have two living areas actually. This is another living area. And this is the front of the house.
No arguing
Okay, I'm on my break now. Let's talk breaks. I hear people ask, do travel nurses get breaks on their contract? Is it the same with the staff nurse? Yes, you basically fill the schedule that is already in the facility. Each facility has a break schedule. The same for both travel nurses and staff.
So you basically just follow their schedule. So yes, travel nurses do get briefs and yes, you follow the staff nursing schedule. Yeah.
The best cure for all difficulties is patience.
Okay, a lot of people ask me how much do you make, how much you make. So for this Dawson Creek contract in BC, as an emergency nurse travel RN, registered nurse, I'm making $70 per hour and I'm traveling with an agency called 911 HR Nurses.
I just arrived today and I will be telling you how much I made because I pay every two weeks and in two weeks I will share my paycheck with you and we will see how much was made and how it works.
Okay, one thing I wish I was told before I became a travel nurse. I wish they had told me that you would not get enough orientation, you will meet with strange people that don't appreciate you, that don't like you for no reason at all just because you are a travel nurse and
Also, one thing I wish they had told me was that everyone is going to keep asking, how much do you make? How much do you make? How much do you make? How much do you make? And the reason why they're asking is so that they can do the maths and know how many hours you've worked and how much you've made and compare it to their paycheck and know how they will treat you. Whether they should give you more work or less work or give you the harder assignments or something. So I wish they had told me that.
But either ways, I found out and I'm still in the game.
