Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully intercepted a suspected terrorist logistics supplier and confiscated a major consignment of logistics support to terrorists as part of continued efforts to degrade criminal infrastructure and deny freedom of action to armed groups in the the North West region region.
The troops conducted a stop and search operation along the Gurbi–Zurmi transit corridor linking Katsina and Zamfara States. During the operation, troops intercepted a commercial utility truck attempting to bypass security protocols.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery and recovery of (4) brand new motorcycles, concealed inside sealed packaging to avoid detection, fifteen (15) 30-liter jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also covertly mixed among containers of vegetable and palm oil to disguise the fuel shipment.

The driver and primary suspect, identified as Mallam Abbas Umoru, was taken into custody.

Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) have arrested bandit informants, with several newly acquired walkie-talkies recovered from them.

The informants were allegedly providing intelligence and other forms of support to bandits. Also arrested were a traditional healer, a medical practitioner treating injured bandits and a fake lawyer.

This is a reminder that banditry is not sustained by gunmen alone. Civilian support networks can provide the intelligence, communication, medical care and other assistance that keep these criminal groups operating.

Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA sustained offensive operation against terrorists in Katsina State, neutralising a key terrorist lieutenant and recovering machine GUNS, arms, ammunition and other items during ongoing clearance operations on 29 August 2026.

Troops of Sector 2, while conducting clearance operations in identified terrorist enclaves within Matazu Local Government Area, encountered stiff resistance from armed terrorists. Troops however, responded decisively and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee the area.

During exploitation of the area, troops confirmed the neutralisation of a terrorist identified as SMALLY, a lieutenant of notorious terrorist leader Kachalla Muhammadu Filani. Troops also recovered 3 machine guns, 2 AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition and 6 motorcycles used by the terrorists for their activities
