This national costume brings together two beautiful expressions of Namibian artistry: San beadwork and Namibian leather.

The intricate beadwork draws inspiration from the incredible skill of San artisans, creating mesmerising patterns with touches of blue, red, green, gold and white, inspired by the colours of our Namibian flag.

And then there’s the leather… rich, bold and proudly Namibian. A nod to our livestock industry, local tanneries and the skilled hands turning genuine Namibian bovine leather into something truly special.

But what makes this design stand out is the story behind it. It brings together culture, craftsmanship, commerce and generations of knowledge in one look. This isn’t just something you wear. It’s a little reminder of where we come from, what we create and the talent we have right here at home.

Inspired by one of Namibia’s most spectacular migratory visitors, The Southern Carmine Bee-eater brings the brilliance of the Zambezi River straight into a national costume.

Scarlet plumage, turquoise accents and dark wing tips come together in a design bursting with colour, while sweeping feather-like details and cascading beadwork capture the movement of these beautiful birds as they take flight.

Having witnessed the Southern Carmine Bee-eater in its natural breeding grounds, the designer wanted to recreate that unforgettable feeling of seeing these birds in all their glory. And honestly… Namibia’s wildlife really knows how to put on a show!

Beyond the beauty, the costume also draws attention to the river habitats these birds call home and the importance of protecting the landscapes that make moments like these possible.

When Namibia paints the sky, she doesn’t hold back! Inspired by our iconic Technicolor sunsets, The Namibian Sunset brings the magic of our horizon to life with rich shades of crimson, coral, orange, magenta and violet flowing across the silhouette.

And just when you think the show is over… tiny scattered embellishments capture the first stars beginning to appear as dusk settles in.

A little drama, a little sparkle and a whole lot of Namibia. 🇳🇦❤️
