𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 | The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has continued its inquiry into the operations and financial affairs of the Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH).

The inquiry took a dramatic turn on Wednesday after the committee, through its Chairperson, disclosed that it had summoned ’Mantsane Likotsi, who is alleged to have been working at the hospital using fraudulent professional credentials.

During her appearance, Likotsi allegedly confessed that she did not sit for the nursing licensure examination, which nurses are required to pass before they can practise professionally.

She further alleged that she obtained the certificate issued after the examination from the Nursing Council through the assistance of a political figure. However, she declined to disclose the individual's identity, citing alleged threats to her life.

The fraud case, in which Likotsi is a suspect, remains under investigation by the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).

Key disclosures from the Chairperson:
1. FRAUDULENT PAPERS: ‘Mantsane Likotsi, who has been working at QMMH with allegedly fraudulent documents, was called in but failed to appear before the committee. Likotsi is reported to have submitted a sick note to the hospital. However, the committee instructed present QMMH staff to call Likotsi to report before the committee.

2. CONFLICT OF INTEREST CONCERNS: PAC raised concern that some QMMH employees also work at private clinics. The Chairperson highlighted Health Direct Clinic specifically.

PAC further disclosed that QMMH Managing Director, Dr. Makhoase Ranyali, is a shareholder in Health Direct Clinic.
