In this edition of Re Sibolla Talenta, we uncover Brenda Jackson aka Stretch Star, a God-loving, soft-hearted but strong-minded contortionist from Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. From a little girl who loved to fold her legs and see how far her back could go on the floor of her room, to a flexibility coach now inspiring thousands online with advanced poses like chest stands, chin stands, Yoganidrasana and Ganda Bherundasana - her journey proves that raw talent can shine from anywhere, even from a small room on a purple mat.

WHO IS BRENDA JACKSON BEYOND CONTORTION AND YOGA?

Thank you for having me. I am Brenda Jackson from Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Beyond contortion and yoga, I am a simple, God-loving girl who loves to make people smile. I am a dreamer, a sister, a friend, and a firm believer that your gift can make a way for you. When I'm not bending, I love listening to music, learning, and spending quiet time. I am soft-hearted but very strong-minded.

HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY INTO ADVANCED BACKBENDS BEGIN?

My journey began naturally. I always loved to stretch and bend while playing. I didn't know it was called contortion or Yoganidrasana or Ganda Bherundasana. I just knew my body loved to move that way. Later I started watching yoga and contortion videos and began training seriously on my own at home, on my mat. From trying small backbends to chest stands and chin stands, I pushed myself daily.

TELL US ABOUT THAT LITTLE GIRL WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH MOVEMENT?

That little girl was very curious and flexible. While other children were just running, I was trying to fold my legs, do splits, and see how far my back could go. Movement made me happy. It was my safe place. That little girl didn't have a coach or a studio, she just had a floor and a big dream that one day her flexibility would inspire the world.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO MASTER THOSE ADVANCED POSES?

It has taken years of consistency. I am still learning every day. Some poses like legs-behind-head took me months of daily hip opening. The hardest part was not the pain, but the patience. There were days I felt stuck, days my body didn't want to bend, and days people didn't understand. But I learned to BEND, to BREATHE through it, and to keep going.

HOW HAS CONTORTION CHANGED YOU?

Contortion changed my confidence completely. It taught me discipline, breath control, and self-love. From just loving movement for myself, I now get messages from young girls saying You inspire me to try. That made me realize my gift is not just for me. It is to inspire. That is why I now coach and share tutorials - to show that flexibility is possible for anyone.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AS A CONTORTIONIST FROM IKOT EKPENE?

A lot of challenges. We don't have big contortion studios or equipment here. I train in my room, on my purple mat. Sometimes people see contortion as strange or not a real career, especially for a girl from Ikot Ekpene. Also, data, space, and lack of professional guidance are hard. But I use what I have, and I prove that talent can shine from anywhere, even from a small room in Akwa Ibom State.

YOUR MANTRA IS BEND. BREATHE. SHINE. - WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?

BEND means don't break when life presses you, just bend and adapt. BREATHE means calm your mind, trust the process, breathe through the stretch and through life. SHINE means after all the bending and breathing, you will glow. Your gift will make you seen. That is my life motto.

WHAT LEGACY DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE?

I want to leave a legacy that says an African girl from a small town can be world-class. I want young girls to know that being different is your power. I want to be remembered as the girl who bent so others could believe they can also shine. I want to open a school for flexibility and contortion for African girls one day.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG GIRLS WHO FEEL THEIR GIFTS ARE STRANGE?

My advice is: Your strange is your superpower. Don't hide it. What makes you different is what will make you stand out. Practice every day, even if no one claps for you yet. The world will catch up. Stay pure, stay focused, and never let anyone make you feel your gift is too much or too weird. You are a Shining Star.

WHAT IS A SHINING STAR TO YOU?

A Shining Star to me is someone who shines even in the dark. Someone who uses their raw talent, no matter how small, to bring light to others. It is not about being perfect, it is about being real, passionate, and brave enough to share your light. We are all Shining Stars, we just need a platform to be seen. THABISO SESIU - THE MOUNTAIN BOY WHO REFUSES TO CHOOSE ONE DREAM

In this edition of Re Sibolla Talenta, we uncover Thabiso Sesiu, a young and ambitious Information Technology student, model, footballer, and aspiring cybersecurity professional from the beautiful Mountains of MKG, Lesotho. He is currently pursuing a Diploma in Information Technology at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, where he has developed a strong passion for technology, creativity, and innovation. His interests particularly lie in Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Web Development, Networking, and emerging technologies. During his university journey, he also had the opportunity to explore his passion for modelling at Limkokwing University, which helped him build confidence, improve his communication skills, express himself creatively, and become more comfortable in front of people and cameras.

WHO IS THABISO SESIU BEYOND IT, MODELLING AND FOOTBALL?

"Beyond IT, modelling and football, I am a person who values discipline, faith, hard work, learning and helping others. I enjoy working with people, sharing knowledge and challenging myself to become better every day. My background has taught me to appreciate where I come from while continuing to dream about where I want to go."

HOW DID GROWING UP IN THE MOUNTAINS OF MKG SHAPE YOU?

"Growing up in the mountains taught me resilience, patience, hard work and appreciation for opportunities. Coming from a rural area made me understand that opportunities may not always be close to you, so sometimes you have to create your own path. It motivated me to pursue education and technology because I want to expose myself to a bigger world while still remembering where I come from. I want my journey to show young people from rural communities that their background does not have to limit their dreams."

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY?

"I chose Information Technology because technology is changing almost every part of our lives, and I wanted to understand how it works and how I can use it to solve real problems. As I progressed with my studies, I became particularly interested in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics because I became curious about cybercrime, digital investigations and how people and organisations can protect their information. I also developed a passion for Web Development because I enjoy creating digital solutions that people can actually see and use. For me, IT is not just about computers; it is about problem-solving, innovation and creating solutions for society."

HOW DO YOU BALANCE IT, MODELLING AND FOOTBALL?

"I balance them through discipline, time management and understanding my priorities. IT develops my mind and technical abilities. Football develops my teamwork, discipline and determination, while modelling has helped me develop confidence, communication and presentation skills. Although they look different, I have realised that they actually complement each other. Football teaches me teamwork, modelling teaches me confidence, and IT teaches me problem-solving. I don't see them as three separate lives. I see them as different parts of the person I am becoming."

HOW HAS MODELLING CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

"Modelling pushed me outside my comfort zone and taught me how to carry myself confidently, communicate with different people and present myself professionally. It helped me understand that confidence is not about thinking you are better than others. It is about understanding your value and being comfortable with who you are. The confidence and communication skills I gained through modelling have also helped me in IT presentations, interviews and everyday life."

WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOUNG BASOTHO FACE IN TECHNOLOGY?

"One challenge I see is that many young people have the interest and potential to enter technology, but they may not always have enough access to resources, mentorship, practical experience and opportunities. I believe technology should not only be used for entertainment. It can also help solve problems in education, healthcare, business, government and communities. I want to contribute by developing my own skills, sharing knowledge with other young people and creating practical digital solutions. I want young Basotho to see technology as something they can build with, not just something they consume."

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM IN CYBERSECURITY AND DIGITAL FORENSICS?

"My dream is to become a highly skilled Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics professional who contributes to protecting people, organisations and digital systems. As Lesotho becomes increasingly dependent on technology, protecting information becomes very important. I want to develop expertise in digital investigations, cybercrime prevention, information security and cybersecurity awareness. I also want to educate ordinary people because cybersecurity is not only the responsibility of IT professionals. Everyone who uses a phone, computer or the internet has a role to play in staying safe online. Ultimately, I want to use my skills to help build a safer and more digitally aware Lesotho."

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?

"In the next five years, I see myself growing into a professional in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, with strong practical experience and additional professional qualifications. In modelling, I would like to continue developing my confidence, presentation and personal brand while taking opportunities that allow me to represent myself and my country professionally. In football, I want to continue developing as a player and remain involved in the sport that I love. Most importantly, I want to be in a position where I can inspire other young Basotho and create opportunities for others while building my own career."

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUTH FROM RURAL AREAS?

"My advice is: don't allow your background to become a limitation. Coming from the mountains does not mean your dreams have to remain in the mountains. Education can open doors, but you must also be willing to work hard, learn continuously and take opportunities when they come. If you want to study IT, learn beyond the classroom. Practice, build projects, ask questions and keep improving your skills. If you want to pursue modelling, work on your confidence, communication, discipline and professionalism. Most importantly, you don't always have to choose between your different talents. With discipline and good time management, you can develop more than one side of yourself."

WHAT IS A SHINING STAR TO YOU?

"To me, a Shining Star is someone who uses their light to inspire others. It is not necessarily the person who has the most money, the biggest achievements or the most followers. A Shining Star can be someone who comes from a difficult background, works hard, stays humble and continues moving forward despite challenges. For me, being a Shining Star means becoming an example, creating hope and helping others believe that they can also achieve something meaningful."
