25 wild dogs. One very unimpressed elephant. 🐘🐕

Our guest Fazil Osman Fbo captured this incredible moment on video — and what a privilege it was to simply sit quietly and watch nature unfold.

A pack of around 25 African wild dogs had their attention firmly fixed on a mature elephant, seemingly testing whether they could take on something many times their size. The elephant made it very clear who was in charge!

African wild dogs (Lycaon pictus) are among Africa’s most social and efficient predators. They live and hunt in close-knit packs, communicate constantly, and can travel enormous distances in search of food. Sadly, they are also Endangered, with only a few thousand mature individuals estimated to remain in the wild, threatened by habitat loss, fragmentation, disease and conflict with people.

Moments like this are a reminder that a safari isn't always about seeing a successful hunt. Sometimes, the magic is simply witnessing the interaction — the tension, the sounds, the uncertainty, and the sheer drama of the wild.

And this one came with a soundtrack…

🔊 SOUND ON for the trumpeting!

There’s something special about slowing down, raising a glass, and watching the African sun disappear beyond the horizon.

We’re so glad to see our guests enjoying their time, the journey and the little moments that make a safari unforgettable.

Here’s to beautiful sunsets, good company and memories made in the wild. 🥂🌍

When we plan your safari, we don’t just take you to Africa — we invite you to immerse yourself in it. 🌍🦁

Some people travel simply to tick off a destination or complete the Big Five checklist. At Jemu Expeditions, we believe a safari should be so much more.

It should be about seeing, feeling, slowing down, connecting and discovering.

When you travel with us, we don’t rush from one sighting to the next just to say you’ve seen it all. We give you time to experience the landscapes, understand the wildlife, meet the people and appreciate the stories that make Kenya extraordinary.

Because nature is not a collection of individual species. It is a connected web of life.

The lion depends on the plains.
The elephant shapes the landscape.
The rhino represents a conservation story far bigger than itself.
And every ecosystem connects them all.

That is why, when we curate your safari, we bring together wildlife, conservation, culture, adventure and meaningful experiences — creating a journey that goes beyond sightseeing.

Come for the wildlife. Stay for the connection. Leave with a deeper understanding of Africa.

Your safari should be more than a trip.

It should be a story you carry with you.

WHEN PHOTOGRAPHY IS YOUR PRIORITY, WE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

At Jemu Expeditions, we believe a great safari is about more than simply seeing wildlife — it’s about giving you the time, space and expertise to capture it.

Our 4x4 safari vehicles are fully customized for wildlife photography, giving photographers the flexibility and visibility needed to work with different angles, compositions and changing light.

And it doesn’t stop with the vehicle. Our guides have an in-depth understanding of wildlife behaviour, landscapes, lighting and photography, helping you anticipate moments rather than simply react to them.

From the vast plains of the Maasai Mara to the wilderness of Samburu, Amboseli, Tsavo and Laikipia, we know the landscapes and we know how to give you the best opportunity to make the most of your time in the wild.

Bring your camera. We’ll take care of the rest.

We can’t wait to photograph Kenya with you.

There’s something truly powerful about hearing a male lion roar. It’s not just a sound—it’s a way of communicating across the landscape.

• A lion’s roar can travel up to 8 kilometres across open terrain.

• Roaring helps lions communicate their location and maintain contact with their pride.

• Male lions often roar to advertise their presence and defend their territory.

• Lions can recognize the roars of individuals they know.

• Roaring is most common during the cooler hours, especially at night and around dawn.

• A deep, powerful roar can help discourage rival males from approaching.

Out here, the roar of a lion is one of the sounds that defines the wild and we were lucky to catch it live on safari.

Remembering Baraka 🦏

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Baraka, who died on Sunday at Ol Pejeta Conservancy at the age of 31 years.

Baraka lived a remarkable life and became a familiar and much-loved figure to visitors from Kenya and around the world. Despite being blind, he continued to inspire curiosity, compassion and a deeper appreciation for the challenges faced by endangered wildlife.

We are especially grateful to all our guests who had the opportunity to meet Baraka during their travels with Jemu Expeditions. The memories and stories shared from those encounters will remain part of his legacy.

We would also like to recognise our founder, James Mwenda, for the important role he has played throughout his conservation journey, particularly in caring for and advocating for rhinos and helping create greater awareness about the importance of protecting endangered wildlife.

As we mourn Baraka, we also celebrate his life and the many people he touched.

Rest in peace, Baraka. Your story will continue to inspire conservation. 🦏🌍

One of the things I enjoy most about hosting safaris is sharing not just the wildlife, but the culture that makes Kenya so special.

On my recent trip , my guests told me they wanted to skip the usual fine restaurant dining and experience a local restaurant instead. Naturally, I was more than happy to take them. Sometimes the most memorable moments of a journey aren't just found out in the bush—they're around a table, enjoying authentic local food, conversations, laughter and experiencing a destination the way locals do.

Safari is about more than seeing animals. It's about connecting with people, places and cultures.

Thank you John and Kathy for trusting me to show you the Kenya I know and love. 🇰🇪❤️

It’s a wrap! 🇰🇪🇹🇿🐘🦁

Fourteen unforgettable days across Kenya and Tanzania have come to an end for Dennis and Carol Powers.

One of the things we enjoy most at Jemu Expeditions is not just the safari itself, but the entire journey that begins long before our guests arrive in Africa. From the very first conversation where a dream safari is imagined, to the countless discussions, ideas, refinements and adjustments, we work hand in hand with our guests to design an experience that truly reflects their interests and expectations.

Every safari is different because every traveler is different. We love the back-and-forth planning process, carefully curating each detail to ensure the final itinerary feels personal, seamless, and memorable.

For Dennis and Carol Powers ,it was a privilege to bring that vision to life on a privately guided adventure through some of East Africa’s most iconic landscapes and wildlife destinations. Even more rewarding was seeing the excitement, wonder and appreciation that comes with experiencing Africa’s wild places firsthand.

This journey was privately guided by our founder and lead guide James Mwenda and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to conclude another incredible safari.

Dennis and Carol thank you for trusting us with your African adventure. We hope the memories, friendships and stories from these past 14 days stay with you for many years to come. Safe travels home, and until we meet again!
