Recovery is about creating the conditions for children to learn, grow and thrive again.

When Hurricane Melissa damaged Mt. Alvernia Prep School’s solar energy system, it affected more than infrastructure. It disrupted the learning environment for hundreds of students. Through the N.C.B. Foundation’s Grant a Wish initiative, Chair Thalia Lyn, together with her husband, helped restore the school’s solar capacity, supporting a more resilient future for the children and staff.

Every child deserves a safe, reliable place to learn.

Today, we honour the resilience, courage and enduring legacy of those who came before us. Their strength laid the foundation for the Jamaica we know today and continues to inspire the generations shaping our future.

More than nine months after Hurricane Melissa, NCB and UNICEF continue to support Jamaica’s recovery efforts.

Through our executing partner, Food For The Poor Jamaica, J$49.6 million has been invested in vector control and water purification supplies for the Ministry of Health and Wellness. This strategic investment strengthens Jamaica’s public health system by enhancing disease prevention, protecting vulnerable communities, and improving the country’s capacity to respond to future emergencies.

🎓 Scholarships – For recent Jamaican high school graduates (20 years and under) who have been accepted into the first year of an accredited undergraduate degree programme at a local tertiary institution.

📚 Book Grants – For students enrolled at the primary or secondary level for the 2026/2027 academic year who require assistance with books and learning resources.

Through the Building a Better Jamaica Fund (BBJF) and in partnership with Food For The Poor (FFTP), six beneficiaries in Thornton, St. Elizabeth received baby chicks and essential supplies to support income generation and livelihood recovery.
