Through this portal, we travel beyond headlines and into conversations that challenge assumptions. A televised interview featuring religious scholar and author Reza Aslan has resurfaced and continues to spark discussion around the world. During the exchange, Aslan responded to questions about Islam, violence, and women’s rights with historical context, comparative examples, and a call for nuance over stereotypes. One of the interview’s most talked-about moments came when he highlighted that several Muslim-majority nations, including Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia, have elected female heads of state, while the United States has yet to elect its first female president. The comparison challenged common assumptions and became one of the defining moments of the discussion. Aslan also argued that it is misleading to judge more than 1.5 billion Muslims by the actions of a small number of extremists. He emphasized that Islam spans diverse cultures, languages, and societies, making broad generalizations both inaccurate and unfair. One of his central points was that religion itself is not defined by a single political or ideological expression. As he explained, “Islam doesn’t promote violence or peace. Islam is a religion, and like every religion, its interpretation depends on the people who practice it.” When the conversation turned to female ge***al mutilation (FGM), Aslan clarified that the practice is rooted in specific regional traditions rather than Islamic doctrine. He noted that it has been documented among different religious communities in parts of central and eastern Africa and is absent from many of the world’s largest Muslim-majority countries, including Indonesia. Whether you agree with every point or not, the interview remains a reminder that meaningful conversations begin with evidence, context, and a willingness to look beyond assumptions. #professorrezaaslan 21/08/2026

Violenza gratuita a St Julian’s, Malta. 19/08/2026
