Why is saffron so expensive?
According to historical evidence, the earliest use of saffron can be traced back more than 2,500 years when it was widely used in Persian cuisine and daily life, in rituals, dyeing of textiles, medicines, and making perfumes. Saffron's journey to India and how it was actually introduced there remains debatable.
According to one of the legends, an Arhat Indian Buddhist missionary - Madhyântika (or Majjhantika), was sent to Kashmir in the 5th century BC. Upon his arrival, he seemingly sowed the first Kashmiri saffron crop. From there, saffron use spread throughout the Indian subcontinent.
Mughal Emperor Akbar loved the smell of saffron so much, that the large windows in the bathhouses of his palaces would overlook saffron fields.
The spice we think of when we hear “saffron” is only a small part of the plant itself. Saffron (Crocus sativus) is a purple flower. What we use for that distinctive yellow color, sweet-herb smell, and bitter taste is the stigma — the pollen-germinating part of the plant.
There are only three stigmata in each saffron flower. Once the stigmata have been separated from the plant, they are dried to preserve their color and flavor. It takes 75,000 saffron flowers to make 500 gm of saffron. The small portion of saffron spice per plant, along with the fact that harvesting is done manually, leads to saffron being majorly expensive. This has led to an increased supply of fake saffron in the market. So we would recommend you to check the authenticity/source of the saffron you bring home with love to be used in food & skincare routine.
Wishing you joy & warmth of the season!🌟

Let's talk water.💧 Water represents soma, the nourishing, cooling quality that is associated with lunar energy. It helps with digestion, cools and balances Pitta dosha, supports Kapha, and counteracts the dryness of Vata.🟤
To cleanse the channels and enhance moisture absorption, ayurvedic texts recommend various lengths of time, creating therapeutic water called 'Ushnodaka'. 💦
If you want to further detox your body, add age-old medicinal (yet so commonplace that you can find them in your kitchen right now) herbs to the water after boiling. Ancient texts talk about the difference in the rate of absorption of regular water vs. boiled water:
💧 Regular water — takes about 6 hours if every channel is clear
💧 Boiled and cooled water — takes about 3 hours to be absorbed, and helps open the channels
💧 Hot herbal water — takes about 1½ hours, due to sharpness of Agni and herbs and spices
Let us talk about ingredients that can be added to make water more detoxifying:
🍋Lemon
Drinking a mixture of lemon with water helps to cleanse and alkalize the body. It reduces inflammation, aids digestion, helps you lose weight, keeps your skin blemish-free, gives your immune system a boost, freshens your breath, and fights viral infections.
🍃Mint
Mint adds a touch of sweetness without the sugar to your water and aids in digestion.
🥒Cucumber
Adding a few slices of cucumber to your water makes for excellent rehydration. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties.
🥔Ginger
It helps cleanse out your system, aids in digestion, and soothes your stomach.
Stay hydrated, add mindfulness to your drinking and eating habits. Small things done right and not gigantic shifts are the solution to fixing an unhealthy lifestyle, which holds true now more than ever.🧘♀️🧘
