What is Parenting Matters? 💛

Parenting doesn’t come with a perfect handbook. Every child is different, every family has its own journey, and what works for one parent may not always work for another.

At Parenting Matters , we believe parenting is a continuous journey of learning, connection and growth. 🌱

We’re not here to preach or offer quick-fix solutions. Instead, Parenting Matters creates a supportive space where parents can better understand their children, become more aware of their needs and emotions, and discover practical approaches that work for their own family.

From everyday parenting challenges and understanding behaviour to strengthening parent-child relationships, our goal is to make parenting guidance practical, thoughtful and easier to apply in real life.

Because sometimes, parents don’t need someone telling them what to do. They need the right understanding, guidance and support to confidently find their own way. ❤️

Follow Parenting Matters for practical parenting conversations, insights and resources created to support you through different stages of your parenting journey.

💬 Tell us in the comments: What is one parenting challenge you would love some guidance on?

Why do children often resist moving from one activity to another?

Because they're not just moving their bodies, they're shifting their attention, emotions, and expectations.

Instead of: ❌ "Stop playing now!"

Try: ✅ "Five more minutes of play."
✅ "After this block tower, it's bath time."

Instead of expecting them to stop instantly, help them prepare for the transition.

🕒 Use timers
🎵 Create a cleanup song
📚 Follow predictable routines
👀 Give visual countdowns

And remember this simple mantra: Connection before direction.

Get close. Make eye contact. Acknowledge what they're doing. Then guide them to what's next.

Many power struggles happen not because children are being difficult, but because they're unprepared.A little warning, a predictable routine, and a calm adult can make transitions much smoother.

Which transition is toughest in your home.. leaving the park, bedtime, mealtime, or screen time?

Six months from now, your child will be six months older.

The question isn't whether new challenges will arise. The question is: will you feel better equipped to handle them? 🤔

Being Your Child's Life Coach course brings together over 20 years of experience, research and practical parenting tools to help you navigate every stage with greater confidence, connection and calm so you don't have to figure it all out on your own.

Starting from Wednesday, 15th July. Separate batches for parents of 0–9 years and 10–18 years.

DM below with the word "Interested", and we'll share the course details.

If I keep validating my child's emotions, wont they become too sensitive and struggle in the real world? Have you wondered about this too?"

It's a genuine concern many parents have and this is what Parenting Matters says-

Home is not meant to prepare children by being another harsh place in the world.

Home is meant to be the one place where they know:
💛 "Whatever I'm feeling is okay."
💛 "I don't have to hide my emotions."
💛 "Someone will listen without judging me."

When children experience this kind of emotional safety, they don't become weaker. They become more secure. And secure children are better able to handle disappointment, rejection, conflict, and life's inevitable challenges.

There's one important distinction, though.

Validating feelings does **not** mean accepting every behaviour.

We can say:
*"I know you're really angry."*
while also saying,
*"I won't let you hit your brother."*

We can acknowledge the feeling and still hold the boundary.

Because all feelings are okay. Not all behaviours are.

When children repeatedly experience this, they slowly learn something powerful: *My feelings make sense. I can handle them. And I can express them in healthy ways.*

That is how emotional resilience is built—not by ignoring emotions, but by learning how to move through them with the support of someone who loves us unconditionally.

When children hold tightly to a toy, they're not necessarily being selfish. They're still learning important social skills like taking turns, waiting, asking permission, and considering someone else's needs.

Instead of forcing sharing, try supporting these skills:

✨ "You're not ready to give it now. When you feel ready, you can share it with your friend."

✨ Before friends come over, involve your child in the process: "Are there any special toys you'd like to keep away today?" Helping children set aside a few treasured items can make it easier for them to relax and enjoy playing with others.

When children's belongings and their feelings around them are respected, they're often more open to being generous.

Remember, the goal isn't to raise a child who instantly gives up their toys. The goal is to raise a child who can balance their own needs with the needs of others.

Sharing is a skill. And like all skills, it develops with practice, patience, and trust, not pressure.

What toy causes the biggest sharing battles in your home? Share with us and we are happy to have a conversation with you on this.

We are happy to share that we have successfully concluded the latest phase of the Positive Parenting Facilitator (PF) Training in collaboration with and , followed by a certification ceremony held in April 2026 at the Gulf Oil premises.

We were honoured to have Mr. Arul, Mr. Ganesh, and Mr. Prabhakar join us for the ceremony. We are deeply grateful for their continued support in making this initiative possible, from hosting us at the venue to thoughtfully arranging lunch for the entire team.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came from a thought-provoking question posed by the Plant Head, Mr. Ganesh: “What advice would you give to the parents of global leaders like Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu?”

The responses from the facilitators reflected the depth of learning, reflection, and emotional insight developed through the training. They spoke about the importance of:

▪️ Raising children with empathy and helping them understand the needs and perspectives of others

▪️ Setting firm yet compassionate boundaries to prevent harmful behaviour

▪️ Creating safe spaces for open conversations and emotional expression

▪️ Collaborating with children to find thoughtful and balanced solutions

One facilitator even demonstrated a mock dialogue, modelling how a parent can acknowledge a child’s emotions while still holding clear and respectful limits. It was deeply encouraging to witness positive parenting principles being internalised and expressed so meaningfully.

We are also delighted to share that the PF team has now grown stronger with 15 trained facilitators, supported by an admin coordinator and a project head.

A special mention to Chithra, our Project Head, whose leadership has been a crucial pillar throughout this journey. Heartfelt thanks as well to Metilda Grace and Rachana Patwardhan for their seamless coordination and support behind the scenes. This project would not have run as smoothly without their dedication and involvement.

And finally, a big shout-out to our team!

Idea #1 : Reduce Your 'Entertainment Burden'
You are not responsible for filling every moment.

Try this: Make a Boredom Jar
Add simple chits like ( make it age appropriate for your child):
• Build a 'secret cave' (bonus: no adults allowed 😄)
• 2-minute dance show (you are the audience)
• Try a simple recipe
• Clean one drawer (yes, really)
• Create a silly outfit using things at home and do a mini fashion show
• Build the tallest tower you can using anything you find (books, boxes, cups!)
Next time you hear “I’m bored…”
Just smile… and point to the jar.

Boredom isn’t the enemy. It’s where creativity (and independence) quietly begins. Please share your experiences ..Let the chat flow:)

Summer holidays are here…and so is the classic question: “How do I keep my child busy without losing my mind? 😄”

In today’s fast-paced world, this is your chance to reset. At Parenting Matters, we’re not giving you a long to-do list.

Just simple ideas to help you:
• reduce your mental load
• build connection
• make holidays meaningful

No pressure. No perfection. Pick what works. Skip what doesn’t.

We’ll post one small idea at a time. Try it. Adapt it. Make it yours ❤️

P.S. Summer can be slow, sensory and real, not stressful. That’s what actually builds creativity, calm, and connection.
