I really don’t like starting my day in a rush.

So if I can, I get to the studio a little early, get everything ready and sit down with a coffee for five quiet minutes before my first client arrives.

Nothing productive. No emails. No jobs squeezed into those five minutes.

Just coffee and a bit of peace. ☕😂

Then I’m ready for people.

I think I’ve realised that my version of “me time” doesn’t always need to be anything exciting. Sometimes it’s literally just five minutes when nobody needs anything from me.

A client was genuinely surprised when I told her I get imposter syndrome too.

We were talking during her appointment about something new she was taking on, and she admitted she was having that horrible little voice saying, “Who am I to be doing this?”

I laughed because… yep. I know that voice. 😂

Apparently she didn’t expect that from me.

And it made me realise how different we can look from the outside.

I’ve been doing nails for years. I have my own studio. I know what I’m doing.

And I can STILL sometimes question myself.

I don’t think confidence means never doubting yourself. Maybe it’s just getting better at not letting the doubt make your decisions for you.

Anyway… apparently even your nail tech doesn’t have her life completely figured out. 😂

Please tell me I’m not the only one — what does your imposter syndrome try to talk you out of?

Removing the old product might look like the boring part of a nail appointment.

To me, it isn’t.

This is where I’m paying attention to how much product I’m removing, what’s underneath and what condition your natural nails are in before we start again.

Because removal isn’t just about getting the old colour off as quickly as possible.

It should be controlled and appropriate for the nail in front of me — not a race to get to the pretty part.

You might not book your appointment because of how I remove your old BIAB or Polygel.

But it’s one of those quieter parts of natural nail care that I think matters.

The finished nails get the photo. The work underneath them matters too.

Apparently my clients are choosing each other’s nails now. 😂

More than once lately, I’ve finished someone’s nails and another client has seen them and immediately said:

“That’s my next nails!”

And honestly, I love it.

Sometimes you can scroll through hundreds of nail inspiration photos and still not know what you want… then you see a real set and suddenly — that’s it. Decision made. 😂

I think I might need to start keeping track of which All In Nails sets get copied the most.

She came in expecting me to fix her broken nail.

I said: not yet.

She’s a regular client who normally wears long Polygel nails, but this was a fresh break and the nail simply wasn’t in a condition where I felt comfortable putting an extension straight back on.

Could I have made it look pretty again immediately? Maybe.

But being able to do something doesn’t always mean it’s the right thing to do.

So this time, the plan was simple — leave it alone, protect it and give it time before we decide when it’s appropriate to rebuild.

I’d much rather send a client away temporarily missing one nail than cover something I don’t think should be covered.

Sometimes good nail care isn’t about what I can add.

It’s knowing when to leave a nail alone.

My first client isn’t here yet, but this is actually one of my favourite parts of the working day.

I like getting to the studio early enough to unpack, get everything ready and have a few quiet minutes before the first appointment.

No rushing through the door at the same time as my client. No starting the day already feeling behind. 😅

Just getting the studio ready, getting myself ready… and then we’re good to go.

It’s a small thing, but I think the way I start my day affects the way I work for the rest of it.

And in a private one-to-one nail studio, I want the first client of the day to get the same calm, unrushed experience as the last.

A cracked nail doesn’t always mean I immediately cut it short.

This little side crack was sitting too far up the natural nail for shortening alone to remove the damaged area.

So, because the nail was otherwise suitable to work on, I reinforced the area with fibre gel and let it grow out rather than unnecessarily cutting the whole nail down and rebuilding the length.

That’s the part of nail appointments I really enjoy — looking at what’s actually in front of me and choosing the most sensible option, rather than automatically doing the same thing every time.

Of course, not every crack should be covered or reinforced. If there’s pain, bleeding, inflammation or anything I’m not comfortable working over, that’s a completely different situation.

Sometimes the smallest repair just needs the right decision.

“This is what happens when I cheat on you.” 😂

That’s what one of my regular clients said when she finally sat back down at my nail desk.

She’d left booking her appointment a little too late and I didn’t have a time that suited her, so she went somewhere else.

And honestly, that happens. Life gets busy, appointments get forgotten and sometimes the slot you want is already gone.

But when she came back, she told me how much she’d missed having her nails done here.

And I loved that — not because she’d tried somewhere else, but because it reminded me that a nail appointment is about so much more than the finished nails.

It’s knowing how you like them shaped. Knowing what works for your nails. Remembering the little things. And that feeling of sitting down somewhere familiar where you can just relax.

Needless to say… she booked her next appointments in advance this time. 😂

Moral of the story? If you have a particular day or time you love, booking ahead saves both of us from any future “cheating”. 😂

Her nails had always lasted really well. Then suddenly, they started lifting like crazy.

And the strange part?

We hadn’t changed her nail service.

So instead of assuming her nails had suddenly become “difficult”, we started talking about what had changed outside the nail appointment.

New products? Different routines? Anything she was using regularly on her hands?

That’s when she realised she’d recently started using a topical cream regularly for shoulder and muscle pain.

She later stopped using it — and the lifting stopped too.

Can I say for certain that the cream caused it? No.

But it was a really interesting reminder that when something suddenly changes with your nails, sometimes the answer isn’t sitting on the nail desk.

Changes in your routine, products you use, medications or what’s going on with your health can sometimes be worth considering too.

That’s why when a regular client’s retention suddenly changes, I’d much rather ask questions and work backwards than immediately blame their nails — or them.

September is here… but I’m not ready to say goodbye to colour just yet. 😂

This time of year always feels a bit in-between.

Some of us are already thinking burgundy, chocolate brown and all the cosy autumn shades…

…and some of us are still holding onto the bright colours for as long as possible. 🙋‍♀️

And honestly? There are no seasonal rules at my nail desk.

If you want deep red in July — we’ll do it.

If you want bright pink in November — absolutely.

Your nails don’t need to match the weather. They just need to feel like you.
