Ka Lam is credited as one of the top 10 makeup artists in Hong Kong and has been providing professional makeup and hair styling services through the last 18 years. Her makeup works have appeared in various magazines including Elle, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Tatler. In addition, she is honoured to have worked with numerous international celebrities such as Solanges Knowles, Nicole Scherzinger, Lily James, Jean -Claude Van Damme, Lily Allen, Ricky Martin, Backstreet Boys, Joe Manganiello, Jason Mras, John Mayer, etc. Recommended by the foremost wedding planners and photographers, she helped more than 700 brides to look their best on wedding days. Ka Lam’s passion for styling and makeup started at a young age. She would be doing makeup for her friends, while parents played mahjong. Ka Lam met Pat McGrath shortly after graduating from the University of Hong Kong at the New York Fashion Week in 2003, who determined her to become a professional makeup artist. In 2004, Ka Lam started Kalamakeup with a team of highly talented makeup artists and hair stylists in Hong Kong. Over the years, her experience and passion have grown stronger through working with people of different backgrounds and age groups. Getting Married in Hong Kong from Overseas?
Here’s How It Works 🤍
Planning a wedding in Hong Kong from the other side of the world can feel like a puzzle. Your makeup and hair shouldn’t be one of the missing pieces.
Many of my brides fly in from the US, UK and Europe. This is how we usually do it:
1️⃣ Say hello early
Send your wedding date, venue and the looks you need on WhatsApp. We reply within 24 hours. For peak season (September to December and Lunar New Year), we recommend booking 9 to 12 months ahead.
2️⃣ Video consultation
We start with a video call across time zones to talk about your vision, your skin tone and your day.
3️⃣ Your bridal trial
We schedule an in-person trial once you arrive in Hong Kong: two makeup and hair looks in 2–2.5 hours. Bring photos of your gown, hair inspiration, jewellery and veil. Half the trial fee secures your trial date.
4️⃣ Confirm your day
Confirm Package A or B on the trial day with half the package fee as deposit and half the trial fee is waived.
5️⃣ The big day
I come to your hotel or venue and style you myself, with constant touch-ups through the tea ceremony, ceremony and banquet.
Bridesmaids and mothers are welcome too.

What 22 years in the makeup industry taught me
22 years, 800+ brides, 1,000+ students — here’s what I keep coming back to:
1. Starting is hard. Don’t give up. Every first feels uncomfortable. Patience and passion carry you further than talent alone.
2. Practise often. Ask questions. Repetition builds skill. Real learning comes from curiosity, not memorising answers.
3. Test before you recommend. Don’t chase every trend. Try products yourself before recommending them to anyone.
4. Lead with patience and responsibility. Leading means understanding, forgiving and staying organised when plans change.
5. Teach in a language beginners understand. Not everyone speaks “makeup.” Use metaphors that make sense to complete beginners.
6. Discipline creates calm. My morning routine — skincare, admin, yoga, gym — keeps me focused before I meet my first client.
7. Love people, not just makeup. Every day brings new faces and expectations. Enjoying people is essential to enjoying this work.
8. Be grateful at every stage. Trust yourself. As Alan Watts said, clouds and waves never make mistakes — they’re simply being themselves.
9. Hygiene is not optional. Everything that touches a client’s face must be sanitised, every time. It’s part of being professional.

3. 推薦前先親身測試。 不要追逐每一個潮流。先自己試用，再推薦給客人、朋友或學生。
4. 以耐心和責任帶領。 領導需要理解、包容，也要在計劃改變時保持冷靜和條理。
5. 用初學者明白的語言教學。 不是每個人都懂化妝術語。用比喻讓技巧對完全新手也說得通。
6. 紀律帶來平靜。 我的早晨 routine——護膚、處理事務、瑜伽、健身——讓我在見第一位客人前保持專注。
7. 愛人，不只愛化妝。 每天都帶來新面孔和新期望。享受與人相處，才能真正享受這份工作。
8. 在每个階段都心懷感恩。 相信自己。正如 Alan Watts 所說，雲和浪從不犯錯——它們只是做自己。
9. 衛生不是選項。 所有接觸客人臉部的東西，每次都必須消毒。這是專業的一部分。

My 5-Minute Evening Touch-Up Routine:
🚓Copper Eyes & Green Pop🍿
Sometimes you don’t have an hour to get ready yet you still want to feel glamorous for a night out.
Here is my go-to 5-minute transformation that is simple, effective and uses products you probably already have.
Step 1: The Base (Refresh & Unify)
I start by using a concealer to blend under the eye—just a little bit—and also around the nose and around the lips. This helps the face look more unified and refreshed after a long day. Then I use a little powder to set the makeup so everything stays in place for the evening.
Step 2: The Eyes (The Statement)
I start with a beautiful copper, reddish-toned eyeshadow. I apply this to the eyelid and use a soft hand to blend it upward. The goal is a wash of color, not a sharp cut crease.
To make the look pop, I take a green eyeliner and apply it directly on top of my upper, outer eyeliner. This adds a striking twist to a classic look.
Step 3: Cheeks & Lips (The Flush)
I love a monochromatic look, so I use my lipstick as blush. I dab a small amount on my cheeksbones and blend. For the lips, I apply the lipstick and then use my finger to softly blur the edges. This makes the lips look softer and fuller.
And Voila! A quick touch-up that looks like you spent way more time on it.

My goal was simple: speak a language younger people understand and make it easy to follow.

Throwback to one of those shoots that just flowed. 📸
Scrolling through old files and found these from a shoot with Jeremy Jeremy 黃俊豪 and while back and it instantly brought back the good vibes from that day.
I really enjoy working with people who work hard. After countless shoots and a busy schedule, he still showed up cool, easygoing and genuinely kind to me he had never worked with before. That kind of energy makes the whole set feel lighter and it shows in the photos.

Some photos don't just hold a memory. They hold a feeling.
Throwing it back to working with this lovely bride, someone so sincere and so full of warmth. It has been a while, but looking back at these photos reminded me how lucky I am to have so many opportunities to witness true happiness and to absorb all the good vibes from these happy events.
I feel blessed to do what I truly love: dedicating my time and attention to every detail, so you look as pretty, as glamorous, and as beautiful as you want, and feel as confident as you deserve to feel at your best.
I know exactly how it feels when you're tired and not freshened up. Your energy automatically goes low too. That's because it's a whole body and mind connection. How you look affects how you feel, and the right touch can lift both your confidence and your energy. This is especially true for those who don't usually wear makeup.
And that's why I believe my role matters.
