The last couple of weeks have been a bit… meh! (Emotionally) anyone else get this?
I used to get imposter syndrome really badly, but I haven’t had it in a couple of years. Now it’s back, with anxiety, and I’m not entirely sure who invited either of them.
But the business still needs running. The team needs you. The school run still happens. And today your child needs to arrive dressed as a scientist, because apparently there weren’t enough things to think about.
So we get up. Find an outfit. Keep going.
Then my youngest came out of school and said:
“I picked you, Mommy.”
For his DT project, they had to choose someone online. A hero, possibly. Someone who inspires them, maybe. He had me at “I picked you”, so the finer details are sketchy.
He found me on Google. By typing my name in, obviously. Let’s not get carried away.
Still, reassuring to know the SEO is working.
And he chose me. Ahead of Roman Reigns, Indiana Jones and Seth freaking Rollins.
Parenting a boy is one of the things that makes me question myself the most. Yet while I’ve been wondering whether I’m getting it right, he’s been watching me and finding something worth choosing.
When you’re running a clinic or a business, leading a team and raising a family, it’s easy to focus on everything you think you’re falling short on.
But someone is watching all those little moments. How you treat people. How you handle a difficult day. How you get up and try again.
We don’t have to pretend it’s easy. But we keep going, because the people watching us might see far more in us than we’re managing to see in ourselves.
My son certainly did.
