Have you noticed the trees lately?
It might just be me, but after the recent heatwaves I've already started noticing leaves turning
yellow and brown. Some trees seem to be preparing for autumn weeks earlier than Id
normally expect It struck me that nature never argues with the seasons. It doesn't rush. It doesn't cling on. It
simply prepares for what's coming next. Maybe there's a lesson in that for us too.
So before we find ourselves asking, "Where has the summer gone? " perhaps today is a gentle reminder to stop for a few moments. Put the kettle on. Sit in the garden if the sun is shining. Go for a walk. Put your phone away for a while Sometimes the smallest pauses make the biggest difference. Tomorrow's Sunday Letter is about something I've been thinking about all week...Permission to Pause.

Luxury means different things to different people.
For some, it's a fast car or a five-star hotel.
For me, it's something much simpler.
An hour where my phone doesn't ring.
A conversation without checking the time.
A walk with nowhere I need to be.
The warmth of the sun on my face.
A deep breath that isn't interrupted by another notification.
Perhaps real luxury isn't about having more.
Perhaps it's about needing less.

One of the biggest myths we've been sold is that rest has to be earned.
Finish the work.
Complete the list.
Look after everyone else.
Then, if there's any time left, maybe you can look after yourself.
The problem is that the list never ends.
Recovery isn't the reward for surviving life.
It's one of the reasons we're able to enjoy it.
Perhaps this week, instead of asking what still needs doing, ask yourself something different.
What would help me feel a little more restored today?

🌿 Note
There is a tendency to think that summer only counts if we're somewhere else.
On a beach.
In the mountains.
Exploring another country.
Yet some of my favorite summer memories have never involved an airport.
They've been quiet evenings in the garden. A walk as the sun begins to set. A barbecue with
family. Reading a few chapters of a good book with a cup of tea. Watching the sky slowly
change colour as another warm day comes to an end.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to get away during the summer, and that's okay.
Summer isn't simply a place we travel to.
It's an invitation to slow down, spend a little more time outdoors and enjoy the life that's already around us.
Don't let it pass unnoticed.

There is a wonderful expression that says:
“Be where your feet are.”
It’s simple advice, but perhaps some of the hardest to follow.
Our minds spend so much time replaying yesterday or worrying about tomorrow that we
sometimes miss the only moment we’re actually living.
The sound of rain against the window.
Children laughing in the garden.
A warm cup of coffee.
The breeze through the trees.
Life isn’t only found in the big milestones.
More often than not, it’s quietly waiting in the ordinary moments we’ve forgotten to notice.

Have you ever noticed how often we postpone looking after ourselves?
“I’ll start after the holiday.”
“I’ll wait until September.”
“I’ll get back into a routine next month.”
Life has a habit of moving the goalposts.
Perhaps wellbeing doesn’t begin with finding the perfect time.
Perhaps it begins with making today just a little kinder than yesterday.
You don’t need a passport to take better care of yourself.
You only need the willingness to begin.

It’s easy to believe that rest only happens when we’re somewhere else.
On a beach.
In the mountains.
Beside a swimming pool.
Yet some of the most restorative moments in life are much closer than we realize.
A quiet cup of tea before everyone else wakes up.
The warmth of the evening sun on your face.
An unhurried walk with no destination.
Reading a few pages of a good book.
Listening to birds instead of notifications.
Summer isn’t simply somewhere we travel to.
Sometimes it’s a way of noticing the life we’re already living.

One of the things I hear most often in clinic is…
“I don’t know where to start.”
The truth is, you don’t have to. Health isn’t a single decision. It’s a series of small ones.
You don’t need to understand every supplement.
You don’t need to know which therapy is best.
You don’t need to have your entire wellness journey mapped out before taking the first step.
You simply need to begin somewhere.
One conversation.
One walk.
One earlier night.
One healthier meal.
One moment where you choose yourself.
Sometimes clarity doesn’t arrive before the journey.
Sometimes it arrives because you started.

Wellness Note
Our bodies are remarkably patient. They rarely go from healthy to exhausted overnight.
Instead, they whisper.
A little less energy than usual.
A restless night’s sleep.
An aching shoulder.
A tension headache.
Feeling more irritable than normal.
Brain fog.
Poor concentration.
We often ignore those whispers because life gets in the way. Until one day our body decides whispering isn’t enough.
It starts shouting. The challenge isn’t learning how to recover after burnout. It’s learning how to listen before we get there.
Your body keeps an honest diary.
The question is…
Are you reading it?

Wellness Note
We live in a world that celebrates doing more.
More hours.
More productivity.
More achievements.
More hustle.
Yet our bodies don’t recover by doing more. They recover when we finally allow ourselves to slow down. Perhaps that’s why so many people feel exhausted despite never stopping.
Recovery isn’t something we earn after we’ve worked hard enough.
It’s something we need if we’re to keep living well.
Maybe this weekend, instead of asking yourself “What else can I get done?”, try asking a different question…
“What would help me feel more like myself again?”
That answer may be very different.
