Information on Truro BID's activities & businesses matters for those working in Truro City Centre. We first became operational in October 2007.

Truro Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led initiative which gives businesses the power to raise funds locally to be spent locally on improving a defined commercial area. Truro BID represents circa 380 Truro businesses and from 2007 to 2017 invested £3.4million into the City centre. We’re now in our fourth 5 year term, which runs until October 2027. We are independent from local authorities and other statutory agencies and deliver projects over and above the baseline service provided by them. Some of our work includes:

∙ Delivering and funding Truro’s annual City Centre Christmas Lights scheme (along with past donations from Lionel and Carol Knight).

∙ Enhancing the festive offer with street entertainment, large scale projections on buildings, traffic-free main shopping streets, markets, and supporting Coppice Theatre shows and Father Christmas grottos.

∙ Delivering the Truro Trend high-profile Catwalk at the Cathedral.

∙ Initiating and supporting one day markets; e.g. the Duchy Fair’s Cornwall Shop Small Markets and Truro Antiques and Collectables Markets.

∙ Joint-funding with Truro City Council the annual floral hanging baskets each spring.

∙ Working with Visit Truro to promote the city, including contributing financially to printed marketing activity (Truro Guides) and Visit Truro’s website.

∙ Representing the interests of businesses on plans for the Pydar Regeneration and Truro Town Fund investment plan.

𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀

As already communicated, there will be four Late Night Shopping evenings in Truro from Wednesday 2 December until Wednesday 23 December and we encourage shops to be open until 9pm.

The Father Christmas Parade, organised by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors, will take place on Wednesday 2 December to coincide with the first Late Night Shopping evening.

Truro BID funds, installs and maintains the Christmas lights, including storage and electricity. They will switch on automatically on Saturday 21 November, to coincide with the first day of Truro Christmas Market on Lemon Quay and Boscawen Street Christmas Markets.

The street markets on Boscawen Street will then be every Saturday and Wednesday from 21 November, and opening later from Wednesday 2 December.

The Christmas events calendar will be shared with businesses in our printed autumn newsletter, hand delivered to city centre businesses from next week. Full event listings are also at Visit Truro's website (see link in comments).

Truro BID, in conjunction with Newham BID, are hosting the tenth City Clean Up this Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October. The aim of City Clean Up is to encourage as many businesses and organisations as possible to volunteer an hour or whatever time they can spare to get involved in helping to clean and tidy our great little city.

On Friday 16 October, we are planning litter picks at Infirmary Hill/Falmouth Road and the River Street/Kenwyn Street area, along with cable tie cutting, sign washing and sticker removal in the city centre.

Truro Businesses, there is still time to volunteer for an hour and help on Friday 16 October! Please email [email protected] ASAP.

Local Community Volunteers and Truro Community Groups (invited by Damien Richards, Community Development Officer, from Truro City Council) will also be taking part with litter picks in Truro's surrounding areas.

High vis vests, gloves, bags and litter sticks will be provided (thanks to Clean Cornwall).

As reminder that there is free parking at County Hall (Lys Kernow) on Saturdays and Sundays. Please tell your customers that there are 60 spaces available at Cornwall Council's car park at the front of County Hall.

Car park users can then head down to the city centre by bus from the stop outside Food Warehouse or on foot down Chapel Hill or Station Road.

Along with other buses, the Park and Ride serves this stop on Saturdays. Bus tickets, including the Park and Ride, can be bought from the driver or via the Transport for Cornwall App. The free parking at County Hall is a trial, so share the news to help show that there is a need for this initiative!

There is also charging point for electric vehicles at County Hall.

Following our e-newsletter story last week, lots of businesses have requested to borrow a Reindeer Christmas Light to enhance their festive window displays.

Reindeer come in three approx. heights: 4ft (Stag), 3ft (Doe) and 2ft (Baby) and we now have 4ft and 3ft reindeer left.

Allocating, distributing and collecting nearly 100 reindeer lights is a time consuming task for our small team. So to request one this year, please complete the online form and select your preferred size (see link to online form in comments).

Reindeer will be allocated on a first come, first served basis from mid-November.

All businesses must apply via the short online form; previous recipients will not automatically receive a Reindeer Light unless they've completed the form.

Businesses should display the reindeer with the A5 sign provided which directs customers to for Saturday 21 November, and switch the light on that afternoon to coincide with Truro’s automatic Christmas lights switch-on.*

The reindeer were purchased in 2020 by Truro BID using government Accelerated Capital Funding from the Truro Town Deal.

The BIG Truro Market returns this Saturday 10 October, with local crafts, lifestyle products and produce.

Held on Lemon Quay from 9am to 4pm, it will feature around 60 Cornwall Shop Small and Truro Farmers Market stalls. Visitors can also enjoy live music, creative workshops and street food.

We are continuing to support Cornwall Shop Small with a small contribution towards operating costs, as the markets boost city centre footfall and can benefit local businesses, including hospitality.

The BIG Truro Market is also supported by Truro City Council and Visit Truro.

The Truro Antiques and Collectables Market is taking place today, Wednesday 7 October from 9.30am to 4pm.

The market, which we also previously delivered until 2023, will be at an exciting new location, outside the front of Truro Cathedral at High Cross.

Visitors and residents will be able to browse and buy a wide range of distinctive, pre-loved antiques and collectables items in front of the city’s historic cathedral.

The antiques market will begin on a slightly smaller scale than the former Lemon Quay event. We hope to grow the Truro Antiques and Collectables Market and bring it back for further dates next year, with more traders taking part.
