Are you tired all the time, but telling yourself you just need to get through this week?
Maybe you’re struggling to switch off.
You’re snapping at people you love.
You’re finding things that used to feel easy strangely exhausting.
You’re waking up already thinking about everything you need to do.
And even when you get some time off, you don’t really feel rested.
I know that place because I’ve been there.
I experienced burnout early in my career, and looking back, there were plenty of signs I ignored because I thought I just needed to try harder, be more organised or get through the busy patch.
When you’re in the thick of burnout, it can feel absolutely devastating. You’re often in a fog of panic, exhaustion and overwhelm and it can be hard to imagine things ever feeling different.
But although burnout can feel devastating at the time, it isn’t necessarily an ending. It can be the beginning of a new chapter. A chance to pause, take stock and start asking what you really need and want from your life and work.
That’s something I talked about when I was recently invited onto Emily Dorschler’s Beyond the Corporate Hangover Podcast.
We talked about my own experience of burnout, the warning signs to look out for, the role our values play in how we work, and how burnout can sometimes become the catalyst for making a different choice.

And if you’re reading this thinking, “Oh. This sounds a bit too familiar…”, you don’t have to wait until you completely fall apart before you do something about it.
Coaching can give you the space to stop, work out what’s really going on, understand the patterns keeping you stuck and start making some small, sustainable changes.
If you’re struggling with burnout, overwhelm or wondering whether your career is still right for you, get in touch.
Send me a DM or book a free 30-minute chat. We can simply talk it through and work out what might help.
You don’t have to have the whole answer before you take the first step.

Calling all work teams 💛
Your team doesn’t need everyone to work in the same way. They need to understand how to work well with difference.
That’s one of the things I love about Insights
It gives people a really useful way to understand themselves and the people around them. Not by putting everyone in a box, but by helping them recognise different communication styles, strengths and ways of approaching work.
And once you understand that, you have some really practical tools to work with.
Insights can help teams to:
• communicate more effectively
• understand why people approach things differently
• navigate misunderstandings and tricky conversations
• recognise their own strengths and blind spots
• build stronger working relationships
• adapt their communication to different people
• help leaders get the best from a diverse team
For me, the real value is the combination of deeper self-awareness and practical tools you can actually use at work.
Everyone leaves with their own Insights Discovery Personal Profile too, so the conversation doesn’t end when the workshop does.
I deliver Introduction to Insights workshops for teams and leadership teams, either as a stand-alone workshop or as part of a wider leadership or coaching programme.
I’m based in Wiltshire and work across the South West, with London also a key area for delivery.
Know a team that could benefit from this? Save this post for later or share it with someone who might find it useful.
And if you’re wondering whether Insights could work for your team, send me a message. I’d love to chat.

A career pivot can look like a practical decision from the outside.
But underneath the CV updates and job searches, there is usually a much bigger psychological shift happening.
Our work is closely tied to our identity, confidence, security and sense of who we are. So when we start to question our career, it can feel surprisingly unsettling, even when part of us knows that something needs to change.
I’ve written about the psychology behind career pivots, why change can feel so difficult and why you don’t necessarily need to have the whole answer before you take the next step.

MEET YOUR HOSTS | AUTUMN RESET
We thought it was time to introduce the two women behind Autumn Reset.
I’m Kate Oatley, a Life & Career Coach with a background in Psychology. I’ve spent years coaching women through the twists, turns and transitions of life and work, helping them make sense of what’s going on beneath the surface, reconnect with what matters and take positive steps forward.
I know how easy it is to keep going, even when you’re running on empty. Sometimes what we need isn’t another thing to do, but some space to stop, reflect and listen to ourselves. That’s where the idea for Autumn Reset came from.
And I’m delighted to be joined by Julie Hall.
Julie is a Registered Nurse, Clinical Aromatherapist and Holistic Therapist, with decades of clinical and holistic experience. Her work explores how stress can show up physically and how evidence-informed complementary therapies can support relaxation, restoration and wellbeing.
Together, we’re bringing our two worlds together for an evening that supports both mind and body.
There’ll be space to pause, reflect and think about what you need, alongside restorative holistic therapies and practical tools to take away with you.
Because looking after yourself isn’t selfish. And you don’t have to wait until you’re completely exhausted to press pause.
Come as you are. Leave feeling lighter.

“Sometimes we have to live the question, not push for the answer.”
I came across this line in The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese and it stopped me in my tracks because sometimes, we really do need to stop trying so hard to work out what comes next.
In coaching, I often see people arrive with a question they desperately want answered. Should I stay or go? Do I change career? Is this the right relationship? What do I actually want? What should I do next? And underneath the question is often a real sense of urgency of I need to know.
But it is incredibly difficult to make a good decision when we are feeling pressured to make one. When we are anxious for an answer, we can become focused on finding the solution rather than paying attention to what is really going on underneath the question.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is put the question on the back burner. Not ignore it and not avoid it, but simply give it some space and allow it to percolate.
Go for a walk. Sleep on it. Write about it. Talk it through. Do something completely unrelated. Give yourself permission not to have everything worked out immediately.
There is good psychology behind this too. Our brains continue to process information outside of our conscious attention, and stepping away from a problem can give us the space to notice connections, feelings and possibilities that are harder to access when we are desperately trying to find the answer.
And sometimes, when we stop forcing the answer, something begins to emerge. Perhaps the question changes. Perhaps a new possibility appears. Perhaps we realise that we already know more than we thought we did. Or perhaps we simply become more comfortable with not knowing yet.
I think this is one of the really valuable things about coaching. It isn’t always about finding an answer or making a decision in the session. Sometimes all that’s needed is the space to sit with a question, explore what sits underneath it and allow your own thinking to develop without the pressure of having to know.
We don’t always need to solve everything today and given a little time and space, the answer can sometimes find us.

Is it time for a career change in your 40s?
By your 40s, you can have the career you once thought you wanted, yet still feel that something isn’t quite right.
Maybe the job no longer fits the person you’ve become. Maybe your priorities have changed. Or perhaps there’s simply a nagging feeling that there’s something else you’d rather be doing.
It doesn’t necessarily mean you need to throw everything up in the air. But it might be time to pay attention to those niggles.
I’ve written a new blog exploring 6 signs you might need a career change in your 40s, and what to do about them.
