Another exercise I used when building my back up πŸ’ͺ
After speaking recently about my own experience with back problems, I wanted to share some of the exercises that helped me gradually get back to training.
Kettlebell swings were another one I introduced. I started light, focused on the movement and gradually built the weight up as I got stronger and more confident.
This is what worked for me and my own situation β€” I'm not saying everyone with back pain should be doing kettlebell swings.
For me, the biggest lesson was start where you are and build from there. πŸ‘Š

After speaking recently about my own experience with back problems, I thought I'd share some of the exercises I used when gradually building myself back up.
First up β€” suitcase carries πŸ’ͺ
I started light and gradually increased the weight over time as I got stronger and more confident.
This is what worked for me and my own situation β€” everyone's different. πŸ‘Š

A look inside treatment session πŸ‘€
Every appointment starts with a chat about what’s going on and what you want to get from the session.
We then have a look at how you're moving before tailoring the treatment to you β€” which may include sports massage, IASTM/muscle scraping, cupping and mobility work.
Every client is different, so every treatment is different. πŸ‘Š

Reason #3 why I got into sports massage πŸ₯‹πŸ‘Š
After nearly 20 years of getting beaten up on the mats, getting into recovery probably makes a lot of sense πŸ˜‚
I've been involved in martial arts for around 18 years, grappling for 15, and I'm a BJJ black belt and coach.
Over the years I've seen first-hand what hard training can put your body through β€” both with myself and the people I've trained and coached.
I've always loved helping people improve on the mats. Sports massage has given me another way of helping people off the mats too.
And it's grown way beyond BJJ. I now work with fighters, CrossFit athletes, gym-goers, people with physical jobs and people who don't train at all.
For me, it all connects β€” Train. Recover. Perform. πŸ’ͺ

Train & Recovery with .2 πŸ₯‹πŸ‘Š
Getting the work in on the mats first, followed by a recovery session with sports massage, assisted stretching and cupping.
Combining 1-to-1 BJJ coaching with recovery work in the same session β€” train hard, then give the body some attention afterwards. πŸ’ͺ

I guarantee you’ve got a man in your life who needs one or both of these πŸ‘Š
Whether it’s your partner, dad, brother, son, mate or work colleague β€” sometimes men need a bit of a push to actually go and talk to someone.
Andy’s Man Club and are two brilliant options locally. Different setups, same idea β€” getting men together, talking, supporting each other and reminding people they don’t have to deal with everything on their own.
Ladies, if there’s a man in your life who you think could benefit, send them this video. It might be the little nudge they need. ❀️
And lads β€” there’s absolutely nothing wrong with walking through that door. πŸ‘Š

Sports massage isn't just massage πŸ‘€
Every treatment is tailored to what you need on the day.
Depending on what we find, your session may include sports massage, cupping, IASTM/scraping and mobility work β€” rather than taking the same approach with everyone. πŸ‘Š
Whether you train hard, work a physical job, sit at a desk or just feel like your body needs some attention, you don't need to be an athlete to benefit.

Reason #2 why I got into sports massage πŸ‘‡
At 27, I was in a really bad way with my back. I was told I had disc degeneration and compression in three discs, and spinal fusion surgery was discussed.
I decided to take a different route and gradually started working on my movement.
I couldn't even start with a 10kg bar. I began with a brush handle, slowly building my range of movement.
Brush handle ➑️ 10kg bar ➑️ gradually adding weight ➑️ eventually a 200kg deadlift. πŸ’ͺ
That experience completely changed the way I looked at movement, recovery and what it feels like when your body stops you doing the things you want to do.
It's a massive part of why helping other people move and feel better means so much to me today. πŸ‘Š
That's Reason #2.

Marathon training taking its toll πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ˜…
Tim came in struggling with stiffness and tightness through his legs from marathon training.
We looked at his movement before the session, then used a combination of sports massage, IASTM/scraping and cupping before checking his movement again afterwards. πŸ‘Š
Great to see such a noticeable difference in how he was moving β€” and even better to receive this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review afterwards!
Thanks for trusting me with your recovery mate. Good luck with the rest of the marathon training! πŸ’ͺ
