Just had your colour done and want it to stay looking as fresh as the day you left the salon? Here are a few simple things that make a real difference.

Try not to wash your hair too often and make sure you use a colour protecting shampoo and conditioner when you do. Two to three times a week is plenty, and always use cool or lukewarm water rather than hot. Hot water opens up the hair cuticle and lets your colour wash straight out.

Heat styling tools are one of the biggest reasons colour fades quickly. A heat protectant before straighteners, curling tongs or a blow dry goes a long way.

Chlorine, salt water and hard water can all strip colour too, so it's worth giving your hair a little extra care after swimming or a day by the sea.

Every colour behaves a little differently. Reds tend to fade fastest, blondes can be prone to brassiness, and even darker shades can lose their richness over time. A proper routine at home really does help keep things looking their best between visits.
