Yesterday, some of our team had the pleasure of volunteering at Sheffield Horatio's Garden, spending the day helping to build a brand-new shed. 🌿🔨
It's always rewarding to step away from our day-to-day work and give back to such a special space. Horatio's Garden provides a beautiful and welcoming environment for people recovering from spinal injuries, as well as their families and loved ones, and we're proud to have played a small part in supporting its incredible work.
A huge thank you to Ruth, the Head Gardener, for making us feel so welcome, we had a fantastic day and can't wait to visit again!
34°c, all year round.
Hydrotherapy at STEPS provides clients with a weight-bearing reduction, when compared to standard land-based therapies, allowing them to maximise function including physical, physiological or psychological. It also reduces the fear of falls, which supports a client’s rehabilitation.
Our pool is used across almost every rehabilitation programme including spinal cord injury, amputation, complex orthopaedic trauma and brain injury.
“The advice I’d give to anyone coming to STEPS is: as long as you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything you want. Just keep going.”
Ben sustained a C6 incomplete spinal cord injury following a road traffic accident on 12th June 2021. His story covers the part the ‘middle section’ of rehabilitation, where therapy is measured in small increments and progress is made mainly through repetition.

What an amazing afternoon we had at our STEPS Sports Day last week.🏅
It was wonderful to see our clients getting involved, cheering each other on, and enjoying every moment. From start to finish, there were plenty of smiles and great teamwork on display.
We’re already looking forward to the next one.🌟

As Aphasia Awareness Month comes to a close, we're reflecting on the importance of raising awareness of a condition that affects more than 350,000 people across the UK.
Aphasia is an acquired communication disorder, often caused by stroke or other neurological conditions. While it can affect a person's ability to understand or use language, it does not affect intelligence.
Our Speech & Language Therapy team supports people with aphasia to build confidence, improve communication and regain independence. Even small changes, such as giving someone more time to respond, using clear language and reducing distractions, can make a meaningful difference.
