We always love a good transformation photo, but today I want to take you behind the scenes of my color selection process. Choosing the perfect lip blush pigment isn't as simple as matching a favorite lipstick—it’s about reading the canvas underneath.
In this 4-picture collage, you can see the entire journey from Before ➡️ Pre-Draw ➡️ Right After ➡️ Healed Results. Here is why we ended up with this custom blend:
Top Left: The "Before" (No Numbing)
At first glance, her natural lips look like a soft, neutral pink. If I had formulated based solely on this stage, the healed results wouldn't have turned out right.
Top Right: The "Pre-Draw" (Post-Numbing)
Artist Tip: This is where the magic happens. Once the numbing agent is applied and the skin settles, the true underlying lip undertones are revealed. For her, that meant a deeper reddish undertone with minor hyperpigmentation. Knowing this canvas was actually warm/reddish with cool undertones completely changed my pigment formulation.
Bottom Left: Right After (The "Scary" Phase!)
My client loves wearing red lipstick, but she explicitly did not want a bright, bold red everyday look. Right after the procedure, it looks exactly like what she feared! But fresh PMU is highly saturated and sits on the surface of the skin.
Bottom Right: The Healed Results
The ultimate proof of trusting the process! The pigment settled beautifully, blending with her natural tones to create a soft, customized, everyday reddish-pink that enhances her features without looking heavy.

My client came in with very pale lips and a scar running right through her cupid’s bow, which made her lip shape look uneven.
I redefined the peak of the cupid's bow, masking the scar and balancing the proportions.
The scar is now tucked away into a seamless, custom-blended shade.
We traded those pale tones for a fresh flush of color.
