We're not trying to attract people because they're mentally ill. We're trying to reach people because everybody knows a man....

And sometimes the bloke who's laughing the loudest, turning up for work every day and telling everyone he's fine is fighting a battle nobody knows about.

That's what Behind the Smile is about!

🎬 FILM — Before You Go opens the evening with a powerful and thought-provoking short film exploring the devastating reality of male su***de.

🎭 THEATRE & LAUGHTER — Bus Banter uses characters, real-life situations, humour and some colourful language to explore men's struggles in a completely different way. Because talking about mental health doesn't always have to feel clinical or depressing.

🗣️ REAL LIVED EXPERIENCE — Then Heads Up Gentlemen takes the stage. No actors. No pretending. No textbook. Real men sharing real experiences and explaining why Heads Up Gentlemen exists, what they've lived through and how a group of strangers ultimately became a family.

🎸 LIVE MUSIC — Guitar, vocals and carefully chosen songs that connect with the emotions, struggles and message running throughout the evening. Sometimes music can say what we struggle to put into words.

🎤 OPEN CONVERSATION — And we'll finish by bringing everything together with a live Q&A, giving the audience an opportunity to listen, ask questions and become part of the conversation.

🟢 OCTOBER IS DEPRESSION AWARENESS MONTH 🟢

Today at Heads Up Gentlemen, we’ll be using our check-in to open up some real conversations around depression, anxiety, stress, loneliness and overthinking — things many men deal with, but don’t always talk about.

You don’t need to be in crisis. You don’t need to have the right words. Sometimes just getting out of the house, having a brew, sitting with other blokes and talking can make a difference. 💪🧠
