Gripping Pain that stops you in your Tracks

You're lacing up. You're heading out. And that familiar ache starts creeping in — the shin, the heel, the knee.

You've probably tried resting. You've maybe tried ignoring it. And notice how it keeps coming back.

Here's what most runners don't realise: your body isn't broken — it's asking for the right kind of help.

Whether you're clocking long-distance miles or training hard with your running club, injuries like Plantar Fasciitis, Shin Splints, Runner's Knee, Achilles issues, and IT Band Syndrome don't just disappear on their own.

They need targeted, intelligent recovery.

At Rotherham Massage Practice, we combine:

✅ Shockwave Therapy — to wake up stubborn tendons and kickstart healing
✅ Tecar Therapy — to accelerate tissue repair deep at the cellular level
✅ Ultrasound Therapy — to boost circulation and calm inflammation
✅ Clinical Physiotherapy & Sports Massage — to rebuild strength and prevent re-injury

And here's what that means for you:

You can feel your stride return. You can trust your body again. You can run with confidence.

Because when you treat the root cause — not just the symptom — you heal faster. You come back stronger. And you stay injury-free.

Now, as you read this, you might begin to notice something shifting. That little voice saying "maybe it's time to sort this properly." That's your instinct. Trust it.

Because imagine this: it's race day. You're at the start line. Your legs feel strong. Your mind is clear. And as you set off, you realise — there's no pain. Just running.

That feeling is closer than you think.

So ask yourself: How good will it feel to run without pain?

Sports Injury Appointment. Your next run is waiting.

That burning knot between your shoulder blades isn’t just "part of the job."

You’ve been sitting at that desk for hours. The screen is blurring, and that familiar, intense burning sensation starts to creep up your neck. It feels like a tight band wrapped around your shoulders.

You try to roll your neck. Crack. It feels good for a second, but the deep, lodged knot behind your shoulder blade remains. It’s a dull ache that never truly fades, a constant companion to your 9-to-5.

Be honest with yourself: How many days have you finished work feeling physically broken?

Most people tell themselves they’ll just push through it. They ignore the warning signs, promising to stretch later, or take a painkiller tomorrow. But ignoring the strain doesn't make it disappear. It just allows the tension to settle deeper into your muscles, creating patterns of pain that become harder to break.

Imagine this instead:

· Imagine sitting at your desk and not feeling that familiar twinge of tension.
· Imagine finishing your workday with a clear head and relaxed shoulders.
· Imagine finally getting rid of that stubborn knot that has been lodged there for weeks.

You don’t have to accept repetitive strain as a normal part of your life. Your body is designed to move and heal, but sometimes it needs a professional hand to guide it back to balance.

Look after your health. Look after your body.

At Rotherham Massage Practice, we understand the toll that office life takes on the human frame. With over 25 years of experience, we are established experts in reversing the damage caused by sedentary, stressful work environments.

Our team is comprised of highly experienced staff, including Sports Massage Therapists and Physiotherapists. We don't just offer a relaxing rub-down; we offer clinical expertise to find the root cause of your pain and release the tension that is holding you back.

It’s time to stop ignoring the signals your body is sending you.

Take action. Reclaim your comfort.

Make the decision to prioritise your well-being today. Book your appointment and let us help you unwind the tension of the past year.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome — What It Feels Like & How We Can Help

Do you wake up with numbness or tingling in your hand? Does it feel like pins and needles that just won't go away? You might be dealing with carpal tunnel syndrome.

What is carpal tunnel syndrome?

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway in your wrist. Running through it is the median nerve, which controls feeling and movement in your thumb, index, middle, and part of your ring finger. When the tissues around the nerve swell, they press on it — and that's when symptoms start.

What does the pain feel like?

Everyone's experience is different, but common signs include:

· Tingling or "pins and needles" in the thumb, index, and middle fingers
· Numbness, especially at night or first thing in the morning
· A burning or aching sensation in the wrist and hand
· Weakness in your grip — dropping things or struggling to open jars
· A feeling like your fingers are swollen, even when they're not
· Discomfort that travels up your forearm
· In later stages, muscle wasting at the base of the thumb

Many people find shaking their hand gives temporary relief — but if you're doing that regularly, it's a sign something needs addressing.

Why early treatment matters

Here's the important bit. Carpal tunnel syndrome is progressive. Left alone, symptoms tend to worsen over time, and once the muscle at the base of the thumb wastes away, that damage can be permanent.

The earlier you seek treatment, the better your chances of full recovery — often without needing surgery or injections. Don't wait until you can't grip a cup of tea.

Exercises you can try at home

These simple exercises can help relieve pressure and keep the nerve mobile:

1. Wrist stretches — Extend your arm, palm up. Gently pull your fingers back with the other hand. Hold 15–30 seconds. Repeat 3 times.
2. Median nerve glides — Make a fist, then slowly open your fingers one at a time, finishing with your thumb out and wrist bent back. Reverse the movement. Do 5–10 reps.
3. Tendon glides — Move through these five positions slowly: straight hand → hook fist → full fist → tabletop → straight fist. Repeat 5 times.
4. Shake it out — Gently shake your hands for a few seconds whenever symptoms flare. It helps get things moving.
5. Wrist rotations — With fists loosely closed, rotate your wrists in slow circles, 10 each direction.

Stop any exercise that increases pain or numbness, and always get professional advice before starting a routine.

How Rotherham Massage Practice can help

At Rotherham Massage Practice, we take a hands-on approach to carpal tunnel and repetitive strain injuries. Depending on your assessment, treatment may include:

· Deep tissue massage to the forearm, wrist, and hand — releasing tension in the muscles that contribute to nerve compression
· Myofascial release to ease restrictions in the surrounding tissues
· Trigger point therapy to target referred pain and tight bands in the forearm
· Nerve mobilisation techniques to gently free up the median nerve
· Stretching and strengthening guidance so you can keep progressing between sessions
· Posture and ergonomic advice — how you sit at your desk, how you hold your phone, how you sleep all play a part

Every treatment starts with a proper assessment, so we can treat the cause — not just the symptoms.

Don't wait for it to get worse.

If you're waking up with numb hands, dropping things, or noticing tingling that comes and goes, book in sooner rather than later. Early intervention is the difference between a few weeks of treatment and months of problems — or surgery.

💪 Shoulder Pain That Won't Go Away? It Could Be Shoulder Impingement.

Do you feel a sharp, pinching pain when you reach overhead, put on a coat, or reach behind your back? That nagging ache that just won't settle—especially at night—is one of the most common shoulder complaints we see.

What you might be experiencing:

· Pain when lifting your arm overhead or out to the side
· A pinching or catching sensation in the shoulder
· Weakness when reaching, lifting, or carrying
· Pain that radiates from the shoulder down the upper arm
· Discomfort at night, especially lying on the affected side
· Difficulty with everyday tasks like dressing, washing, or reaching for a seatbelt

What's actually happening?
Shoulder impingement occurs when the tendons and bursa (a fluid-filled sac that cushions the joint) get pinched or compressed between the bones of your shoulder. This leads to inflammation, pain, and often a cycle of movement avoidance that makes things worse over time.

It's commonly caused by:

· Repetitive overhead movements (throwing, swimming, decorating, lifting)
· Poor posture or rounded shoulders
· Muscle imbalances around the shoulder blade
· Age-related wear and tear
· Previous shoulder injury

How we can help:
The good news? Most cases of shoulder impingement respond very well to conservative treatment—no surgery required.

At our practice, we offer a combined approach:

🔹 Sports Massage – Releases tight muscles around the shoulder, neck, and upper back that contribute to the impingement. This helps restore movement and reduce pain.

🔹 Physiotherapy – Targeted exercises to strengthen the rotator cuff and shoulder blade muscles, improve posture, and restore full range of motion. We address the root cause, not just the symptoms.

🔹 Personalised Treatment Plan – Every shoulder is different. We assess your movement, lifestyle, and goals to create a plan tailored specifically to you.

Why choose us?
Our Therapists specialise in musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, with a proven track record of getting results. Whether you're an athlete, a manual worker, or simply someone who wants to reach the top shelf without wincing—we can help.

Don't let shoulder pain limit your life.
