When we hear the word menopause, we often think about hot flushes.

But menopause can involve a much wider range of symptoms and everyone’s experience is different.

For women, understanding the possible signs can help you recognise that changes in your body aren’t necessarily happening in isolation.

And for therapists, this matters because the woman sitting in your treatment room is bringing her whole experience with her.

We’re not there to diagnose.

We’re there to listen, understand our scope, ask appropriate questions and know when someone may need further support.

Because menopause-informed care isn’t about knowing everything.

It’s about knowing enough to have a better conversation.

📌 SAVE this post so you can come back to it when you’re wondering whether a change you’re experiencing could be part of perimenopause.

💬 SHARE it with a woman who needs to know that menopause can be about so much more than hot flushes.

And therapists save this for your next consultation. It might help you ask a better question.

Tomorrow I leave my 30s behind.

And rather than feeling sad about getting older, I’ve found myself feeling incredibly grateful.

My 30s weren’t always easy, but they were full of growth, change, love, lessons and a lot of becoming.

And I’m walking into 40 with a very different perspective on what it means to get older.

I’m not interested in being younger.

I’m interested in being well.

Being present.

Learning.

Growing.

Loving my people.

Building something meaningful.

And enjoying the privilege of getting older.

Here’s to the next decade.

Hello 40. 🥂

If you’re already in your 40s, I’d love to know:

What’s the biggest thing your 30s taught you?

There’s a polished version of this story I could tell.

The version where I always knew exactly where I was heading.

But that wouldn’t be the truth.

I was learning as I went.

Learning about hormones. Learning about what was happening to the skin. Learning how to have different conversations with my clients. And learning how to speak confidently about something that suddenly felt so much bigger than skincare.

There were definitely moments when I wondered whether I knew enough.

Whether I had the right to talk about menopause.

Whether I should wait until I felt more qualified, more confident, more certain.

But then women started opening up to me.

They’d say things like, “That’s exactly what’s happening to my skin.”

And I realised something.

What I was experiencing personally wasn’t just my own story.

It could help another woman understand what was happening to her.

That changed the direction of my work.

And looking back, I think the biggest shift wasn’t when I suddenly became an expert.

It was when I stopped waiting to feel like one.

I kept learning.

I kept asking questions.

I kept having the conversations.

And eventually I looked back and realised I had become the person I once needed.

Now, mentoring other skin professionals in menopause skin feels like the natural next chapter.

Because I remember what it felt like not to have all the answers.

And I know how powerful it can be when someone helps you see what’s possible.

You don’t always need to feel ready.

Sometimes you just need to be willing to take the next step.

So tell me…

What’s the thing you’ve been waiting to feel “ready enough” to start?

Well… this post went a little wild.

I honestly had no idea how many memories I was about to unlock when I posted my OG therapist post.

The comments have been my favourite part.

So many of you sharing your own memories of training, your first treatment rooms, the things we were taught, the things we definitely weren’t taught and all those little details that you’d completely forgotten about until someone mentioned them.

And honestly, it has brought back SO much nostalgia.

The yoghurt face masks.

Fuller’s Earth masks.

Rose water.

Straining wax.

The paper consultation cards.

Learning massage routines by heart.

Textbooks instead of Google.

Separating the bedroll to make it last longer.

Being told what you could and couldn’t wear in the treatment room.

We really did things differently.

And yet, reading your comments has made me realise how many of those little moments shaped the therapists we became.

23 years in this industry and I still feel incredibly lucky to be part of it.

We’ve changed.

The industry has changed.

The education has changed.

The treatments have changed.

But clearly, some of those OG therapist memories are still firmly with us.

Thank you for sharing yours. I’ve absolutely loved reading every single one.

And if I missed something from your OG therapist days… tell me below.

I have a feeling there are plenty more memories to uncover.

Therapists, are you confident treating menopause skin?

There’s a difference between knowing how to perform a treatment and understanding why your client’s skin may need something different.

When I trained, menopause skin wasn’t covered in the depth therapists need today.

Yet women are already asking:

“My skin has completely changed.”

“Why is everything irritating my skin?”

“Why isn’t my skin recovering like it used to?”

You don’t need to diagnose or work outside your scope. But you do need to feel confident understanding what you’re seeing, asking the right questions and adapting your approach safely.

That’s why I created my 6-week Menopause Skin Mentoring Programme.

Build your knowledge, adapt your consultations and feel more confident supporting clients with changing skin.

Places are limited.
