From 1 October, eligible employers taking on a 16–18-year-old barbering apprentice could receive up to £3,000 in government incentive payments—plus fully funded apprenticeship training and assessment.

This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your team, train a young barber properly and help create the next generation of skilled professionals. 💈

💈 Today is the first reading of my Presentation Bill seeking mandatory registration for all hairdressers and barbershops in England.

The Bill has genuine cross-party support and was developed on the back of an excellent Parliamentary event, co-hosted by local barber Mike Taylor and the Hair and Barber Council.

More must be done to protect legitimate high street businesses and mandatory registration will ensure customers know that they are supporting genuine barbershops and salons staffed by skilled professionals. I will continue to press the Government to make this law, and quickly!

Yesterday, we welcomed our newest group of 16–18-year-old learners as they enrolled on this year’s barbering course! ✂️💈

They all looked incredibly keen, eager and ready to begin their journey—and the future of barbering looks very bright indeed.

We’ll be following their progress and celebrating their achievements across our socials as they develop their skills and work towards making their dreams a reality. Watch this space! 🌟
