Your body can carry far more than pain.
It can carry stress, grief, fear, exhaustion and the effects of experiences you thought you had already pushed through.

Sometimes your body speaks before you do.
That understanding is a huge part of why I became a massage therapist.

Movement has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Dance. Gymnastics. Performing arts. Training. The gym.

I have pushed my body, injured it, recovered, lived with chronic pain, had physiotherapy and sports massage, and learnt how frustrating it can be when your body suddenly stops doing what you want it to do. But I have also learnt that what we feel physically is not always caused by an injury. Stress can change the way we breathe and hold ourselves.

Grief after losing someone we love can leave us feeling heavy, exhausted and tense.
Difficult relationships, frightening experiences or abuse can leave people feeling constantly on alert, guarded or unable to fully relax.

Sometimes the shoulders stay lifted. The jaw stays tight. The breathing becomes shallow.
Sleep changes. The body feels exhausted even when you cannot explain why. That is why I believe you have to look at the person, not just the painful muscle.

Before massage therapy, I spent almost 22 years in the corporate world, selling, training, managing, travelling and working long hours.
It taught me how to communicate, how to listen and something I now value enormously in my treatment room.

Trust has to be built from both sides.

Then, shortly before turning 40, I became a mum for the second time. Because I had more scans than usual, I watched my baby develop from a tiny heartbeat into bones, muscles, movement and life.
I became completely fascinated by the human body.
I wanted to understand more.

Why does one person recover quickly while another struggles?
Why can two people experience similar pain but need completely different support?
How do muscles, tendons, joints, circulation, lifestyle, stress and emotional wellbeing all influence the way somebody feels?

That curiosity became Gemma G Massage Therapy.
And since beginning this journey, I have realised something even more important.
Sometimes people come to me because something hurts.

Sometimes they come because they are stressed.
Sometimes they are grieving.
Sometimes they have been through things they do not want to explain.

Sometimes they simply need one hour where nobody expects anything from them.
There is no judgement on my treatment table.
You do not have to arrive feeling confident.
You do not have to have all the answers.
And you certainly do not have to explain your whole life story.

My job is to listen, understand what your body needs and create a treatment around you.
I will keep learning, developing and expanding my knowledge because I never want to become the therapist who believes there is nothing left to learn.
Every body is different.
Every person is different.
Every story is different.

Massage to me is more than working on muscles.
It is trust.
It is connection.
It is understanding the person behind the pain.
It is creating space for someone to relax physically and mentally.

And sometimes, it is simply giving someone permission to put themselves first.

That is what Gemma G Massage Therapy means to me.

“Let this be the moment you stop carrying yesterday and start stepping into what’s next. New beginnings are not about having it all figured out, they’re about choosing peace, hope and the courage to begin again.”
