🚨 LET’S TALK ABOUT GEL POLISH & SMALL SALONS
I’m incredibly disappointed by the gel polish section on This Morning with Nadine Baggott.
There are important conversations to have around product safety and nail health, but suggesting small, independent salons are less reputable or more likely to cut corners is simply unfair.
I am a small, independent salon.
At Infill-I-Tay Nails & Training, I invest in professional products, training, qualifications and ongoing education. I do NOT decant products, mix systems or compromise on my standards.
And I’m certainly not the only one.
There are THOUSANDS of professional, independent nail technicians who take their work seriously and put their clients’ nail health first.
Being a small salon does not mean being unprofessional.
Being independent does not mean cutting corners.
And being a big salon does not automatically make a business more reputable.
What concerns me most is the impact these statements can have on small businesses. We spend YEARS building trust with our clients, and one broad statement on national television can undermine that trust.
Then there is the promotion of home gel kits.
Gel products require knowledge of application, curing, compatibility and safe removal. Incorrect application, including skin contact or inadequate curing, can increase the risk of sensitisation and allergic reactions.
This is why professional education matters.
Please educate consumers about product safety and encourage them to choose properly trained professionals — but don’t paint every small salon with the same brush.
There is a HUGE difference between raising awareness and making generalisations that can damage genuine, hardworking businesses.
Nadine Baggott — please get the full facts and represent our industry fairly.
Behind every small salon is a real person who has worked incredibly hard to build their business, reputation and expertise.

🚨 LET’S TALK ABOUT GEL POLISH, PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS & SMALL SALONS
I’m honestly incredibly disappointed by the section on gel polish featured on This Morning with Nadine Baggott
There were some important conversations to be had around product safety, professional products and nail health — but making sweeping statements that could leave viewers believing that small, independent salons are somehow less reputable or more likely to cut corners is simply not a fair representation of our industry.
I am a small, independent salon.
I have built Infill-I-Tay Nails & Training on professional standards, education, quality products and, most importantly, the safety of my clients.
I do not decant products and pass them off as something else.
I do not mix products together.
I do not compromise on the products I use or the standards I expect.
And I am certainly not the only small salon owner who operates this way.
There are THOUSANDS of highly trained, professional, independent nail technicians and salon owners who work incredibly hard to:
✨ Invest in genuine professional products
✨ Undertake appropriate training and qualifications
✨ Follow manufacturer instructions
✨ Understand product chemistry and safe application
✨ Prioritise their clients’ nail health
✨ Continually educate themselves and keep their knowledge up to date
Being a small salon does not mean being unprofessional.
Being independent does not mean cutting corners.
And equally, being a large salon doesn’t automatically make a business more reputable.
What concerns me most is the impact these kinds of statements can have on small businesses.
We spend YEARS building trust with our clients. We invest heavily in education, insurance, products, equipment and ongoing training. We work incredibly hard to build a reputation based on professionalism and trust.
One broad statement made on national television can potentially undermine that trust in a matter of minutes.
And then there is the promotion of home gel kits within the same conversation.
This is where I think we REALLY need to be careful about the message we’re giving consumers.
Professional gel products are designed to be used correctly, with appropriate knowledge, training and application techniques. Incorrect application, including product contacting the skin or inadequate curing, can increase the risk of developing sensitivities and allergic reactions.
That is why professional education matters.
That is why product knowledge matters.
That is why following manufacturer instructions matters.
And that is why we, as professional nail technicians, take this seriously.
We have seen first-hand how quickly consumer demand for DIY nail products can increase when salons aren’t accessible. We absolutely should NOT be encouraging people to believe that gel products are risk-free simply because they can be purchased for home use.
Educate people. Absolutely.
Talk about product safety. 100%.
Encourage consumers to choose properly trained professionals. YES.
But please don’t achieve that by painting every small, independent salon with the same brush.
There is a HUGE difference between raising awareness and making generalisations that can damage genuine, hardworking businesses.
So Nadine Baggott— please, next time, get the full facts and represent the industry fairly.
Because behind every small salon is a real person who has worked incredibly hard to build their business.
Behind every professional nail appointment is education, training, product knowledge and responsibility.
And behind every pair of hands we work on is a real person’s nail health.
Small businesses matter.
Our reputations matter.
Professional education matters.
People’s nail health matters.
And above all…
FACTS MATTER.
