❤️ THIS is what an 8-week fade-out should look like! ❤️

Alana was back with Katy yesterday for her 8-week red refresh — and before Katy even touched it, we had to get a photo. 👀🔥

LOOK AT THAT BEFORE!

Eight weeks since her last colour and that red was still holding strong. The only thing really giving the game away was the new root growth. 😂

And this is exactly why Katy goes on about maintenance so much. A funky colour doesn’t have to be wrecked after a couple of weeks. Follow the aftercare Katy gives you, treat your hair properly, and this is the kind of fade-out we want to see at your next appointment. 🙌

For Alana's refresh, Katy started by bleaching up the new rootage, carefully preparing only what actually needed lifted. She then mixed up Alana's custom red and got those roots firmly put back in their place. ❤️🔥

The result?

✨ Fresh roots
❤️ That huge, glossy red restored
🔥 Another eight weeks ready to go

And because the existing colour had been looked after properly, there was no need to start all over again.

Follow the Katy-specified hair rules and your colour WILL reward you for it. 😂❤️

Swipe through the afters, then check that before again — because that is how we want a funky colour coming back to us after eight weeks.

💷 **OUR PRICES AREN’T A NEGOTIATION STARTING POINT** 💷

Over the last few weeks, we’ve had a few people trying to negotiate the cost of their hair, so we need to make this clear:

Our listed prices are not our first offer in a negotiation. They are the prices our services start from, based on the time, products, preparation and skill involved.

🌈 **FUNKY COLOUR BOOKINGS**

If it has been 8 weeks or longer since your funky colour appointment, you will need to book the full service again:

One colour → Funky One Colour
Two colours → Funky Two Colour
Three colours → Funky Three Colour

After 8 weeks, there is usually enough regrowth that the roots need lightened and prepared again.

If you return within 8 weeks, have very little regrowth and do not need any new bleaching, you may be suitable for a Funky Refresh. This simply freshens up your existing colour when the freezing-cold, once-a-week washes haven’t quite kept it vibrant! 🥶😂

A refresh does not include root bleaching, a new colour design or changing the number of colours.

📱 **MESSAGES AFTER 8PM**

From today, we will not be available on social media after 8pm.

This follows someone bombarding us with messages at 12:40am trying to get their hair cheaper, then becoming rude and abusive when told the price was the price.

We were then told we should improve Funky Doos’ fixtures and fittings before charging our prices. We have always been completely open that our new salon is being rebuilt and improved in phases.

The stage of our renovation does not reduce the cost of professional products, insurance, electricity, training, preparation, appointment time or Katy’s skill.

Funky Doos is run and operated by a 24-year-old woman working incredibly hard to build her career and create something special. She deserves basic respect.

We understand everyone has a budget, and there is no judgement if an appointment is not affordable. We can discuss a simpler option or longer-term plan.

What we will not accept is haggling, abuse or belittling the salon because someone has been told no.

**Our prices are our prices — not the opening round of negotiations.** 💚

💙 **FIRST EVER FUNKY COLOUR!** 💙

Today’s client was visiting Funky Doos for the very first time — and not only was it her first appointment with us, it was also her **first-ever funky colour!** 🎨✨

Because Katy was working with completely virgin hair, she started with a gentle lightening of the ends. This helped open the hair cuticle and prepared the ombré section to take the vivid colour properly, without unnecessarily bleaching the rest of the hair.

Then came some **Katy custom colour mixing**, creating this gorgeous bespoke bluey-teal shade just for her! 💙🩵 The colour was applied throughout the prepared ombré section and left to develop for 40 minutes before Katy finished the look with a beautiful loose curl.

A perfect way to step into the funky world without changing the whole head — and what an incredible colour to choose for your first adventure! 😍

🌈 SOMETIMES THE BEST COLOUR CHANGE IS THE ONE THAT SETS UP THE NEXT ONE… 🌈

Our longtime client Sonya was back in with Katy on Saturday for another colour change — but this time, the appointment was all about the transition. 💗❤️

Katy has been gently working on removing the blue from Sonya’s hair over her last few appointments, protecting the condition and taking things one step at a time rather than forcing a huge change all at once.

This time, it was ready for what Katy calls a “funky tone-out” — using mostly reddish-pink tones to help neutralise what was left behind and create a gorgeous colour while preparing the hair for Sonya’s next big combination.

After this colour fades, followed by another carefully planned Efassor session, we should be in the perfect position to move on to the next funky creation! 👀🌈

But transformations like this are only possible because Sonya treats her hair with the respect it deserves.

She uses Joico Colour Therapy shampoo and conditioner, only washes her hair once a week, and always books a fresh colour consultation whenever she wants to change things up.

That gives Katy the chance to properly assess the hair, see what is safely possible and create a plan — because sometimes the journey to the next big colour is just as important as the final result. 💚

Healthy hair, realistic planning and a client who follows the aftercare advice — that’s how we keep the funky going! ✂️✨

📣 FUNKY DOOS UPDATE TIME! 📣

There have been a few exciting changes happening behind the scenes at Funky Doos, so it’s time for a proper little update! 💚

First of all, we’d like to welcome our new Saturday girl, Ocean! 👋

Ocean will be spending this year learning all the salon basics while she finishes school. Then, if hairdressing is still the career she wants to follow, she’ll officially become Katy’s junior next year and begin her apprenticeship with us. ✂️

Because we’re getting busier, we’ve also welcomed Ryan, who will be joining us every Wednesday as our college placement stylist! 🙌

Ryan is already a Level 5 qualified stylist and will be working towards his Level 6 this year, taking him another step closer to becoming fully qualified.

Over the next few months, Ryan will be building his experience in the salon, and we’ll gradually begin offering a selection of junior discounted appointments with him. Keep an eye on the page for updates and model opportunities! 👀

There will also be a small change to our opening hours starting in September, as Katy begins her HND in Hairdressing.

This qualification will allow Katy to fully train and assess our own apprentices in the future, helping us grow the next generation of Funky Doos stylists right here in the salon! 💪🌈

🕒 NEW OPENING HOURS FROM SEPTEMBER

Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 2:30pm–9pm
Wednesday: 10am–9pm
Thursday: 10am–9pm
Friday: 10am–9pm
Saturday: 9am–6pm

All other hours remain the same, and as always, we are open by appointment.

It’s an exciting time for Funky Doos, and we’re so happy to have Ocean and Ryan joining us as the salon continues to grow! 💚🩷💙

Welcome to the Funky Doos family, Ocean and Ryan! 🌈✂️

🚨 BIG EVENT THIS WEEKEND… BUT YOUR HAIR ISN’T READY? 🚨

It’s Thursday, the event is Saturday, and you’ve suddenly realised you haven’t had a Funky Doos Colour Blueprint yet…

Don’t panic — we may still be able to make it happen! 🙌

If you’re an experienced colour client who has been having their hair coloured for years, with no previous reactions or known sensitivities to hair-colouring products, you may be able to book:

🤎 Colour Blueprint + Natural Colour
🌈 Colour Blueprint + Vivid Colour

Your Colour Blueprint and colour service can potentially be completed during the same appointment, meaning brand-new Funky Doos clients could book for as soon as Friday — no waiting weeks when that big event is almost here!

Where permitted for your chosen products and service, you’ll need to complete and sign our patch-test waiver before we begin.

Every appointment is still subject to Katy assessing your hair, colour history and the look you want to achieve. Some colours or transformations may not be suitable for a same-day service — healthy hair and client safety will always come first. 💚

So, when the last-minute hair panic hits… Funky Doos might just save the weekend! 😏🔥

🔥 “THAT CAN’T BE DONE IN ONE SESSION…”
Katy: pass me the colour bowl. 😏🎨

Yesterday, we welcomed a brand-new client to Funkydoos who had previously been told the colour she wanted couldn’t be achieved in one appointment.

Her hair had layers of box dye and assorted colour build-up, but after checking the condition and history properly, Katy knew there was a safe route forward. 🙌

She began with a small Efassor session to carefully remove the unwanted colour build-up and create a cleaner canvas. Then came the bit Katy loves most — custom colour mixing! ❤️‍🔥

The client wanted rich reds and deeper orange tones without the bright yellow sections from her inspiration picture, so Katy created a completely bespoke blend designed around her hair, her style and exactly what she asked for.

The result? A rich, multidimensional red transformation with darker depths running through the ends — completed in one session and finished with a fresh blow-dry and beautiful curls. 🔥🖤

Not every colour journey can or should be completed in one appointment, because the condition of the hair will always come first. But sometimes it doesn’t need an automatic “no” — it needs someone willing to assess it properly, make a plan and use their colour knowledge.

And the message afterwards said it all:

“Thanks so much for my hair! I love it x” 🥹❤️

This is exactly why every Funkydoos colour transformation begins with a Colour Blueprint. We don’t guess — Katy plans.

🌈 WE’RE BACK — AND THE HAIR IS DOING ALL THE TALKING! 🌈

After the drama of last week, we took a little break from posting while we put a few things in place to stop the nonsense that’s been happening on our page.

That’s dealt with now… so let’s get back to what actually matters around here — incredible hair! 💚💙💜

This transformation started with years of box colour that needed carefully lifting. Katy began with Efassor and 20 vol through the coloured lengths, then moved onto the natural regrowth using bleach and a gentle 10 vol.

Once the perfect canvas was created, Katy sectioned out a hidden rainbow peekaboo, using:

🩷 Pink
🧡 Orange
💙 Blue
💚 Green

For the top veil, she blended purple, blue and green, creating that deep, mysterious finish that completely changes when the hair moves! From the outside, it’s a gorgeous dark ocean-inspired blend… then lift the top layer and BOOM — full rainbow rebellion underneath! 🤯🌈

Finished with a trim and soft waves to show off every hidden flash of colour.

The before-and-after says everything. Box colour to multidimensional Funky Doos magic! 🔥

Erin won our box dye removal competition back in April. Today was the first time we've put bleach anywhere near her hair.

Three months. Two full appointments of treatment before a single foil went in.

Erin came to us with years of box dye layered up on her hair. Going straight in with bleach would have been the easy option and the wrong one. It would have looked great for a fortnight, and then we'd have been having a very different conversation.

So: repair first. Two full K-Pak 4 step treatments in the salon, and Erin went home with K-Pak Hydrator and Reconstructor, Joico Defy Damage shampoo and conditioner, and an actual routine to stick to. She stuck to it. That's the part that did the heavy lifting, and it wasn't us.

Today was the payoff. Loads of new growth coming through, and the old damaged hair strong enough to finally take some colour.

So Katy went in. Defy Damage sprayed through the whole head first. Full head of highlights, then colour between the foils, 7NC through some sections and 5N through the rest to build the depth back in. Rinsed, with Reconstructor and Hydrator straight on at the backwash. Toned with 9NG and 9N, rinsed, then Reconstructor and Hydrator again. Trim and a soft wave to finish.

And she's still not done. This is a step, not the finish line. Getting years of box dye out properly takes as long as it takes, and rushing it is how people end up leaving hair on the floor.

Erin won the competition, but that plan wasn't a prize plan. It's just the plan. It's what we'd tell anybody sitting in that chair with the same hair.

Next step in eight weeks. We'll show you that too.

If you've got years of box dye on and you've been told it's a lost cause, it usually isn't. It's just never a one appointment job, and anyone who tells you it is should worry you.

Same client. Same colourist. Her last three appointments.

Left is Linzi about six months ago. Right is her today.

Nobody gets from the first photo to the third one in a single sitting. It isn't a skill thing, it's a chemistry thing: what's already on your hair decides what can be done to it next. So you get there in stages, eight weeks at a time, with someone who remembers exactly what she put on it last time and what it did.

Today was a half head. Katy wove out only the darker pieces that had crept back, left the lengths alone because they were still doing their job, 35 minutes to process. Then 9PV and 9VG for 25 minutes, which is the bit that pulls the gold out and takes her cool. Trim, soft wave, done.

This is the argument for having a colourist instead of having appointments. Linzi's hair is better in the third photo than the first because it's the third photo.

If you're forever starting again somewhere new, that's why your blonde never quite gets there.
